Re: Daycare moms...caregivers saying "I love you"

Do your daycare workers do this? And do you mind if they do?
i have never heard them say this. And to be honest, YES it would bother me.
I understand wanting to show affection for a child but i think it is inappropriate to be saying i love you.

I don't mean to flame you or start an argument, but why in the world is that inappropriate? Just trying to understand your position

Re: Daycare moms...caregivers saying "I love you"
it is just inappropriate to me. LOVE imo is for family and close friends.
And i think a teacher, any teacher saying they love the child is kinda inappropriate to me.
I don't expect any flaming, it is just how i feel about the matter. As others have their own opinions on it.
Sweetie, Lovey, cute names and hugs and kisses, I totally love to see. But FOR ME, a teacher saying "i love you", just doesn't sit right with me.
why would i be flamed for stating my opinion???

Re: Daycare moms...caregivers saying "I love you"
I hope you don't take this for flaming, that's not how I mean it.
But I think that because some of these providers spend more time in a given day with the children then their own parents do I think it is possible that they do genuinely feel love for them. That is the case with my son. Out of the 13 hours that he is awake, he spends 9 with them. After a few months I'm sure there is some connection and bond that they form. Gosh, I would hope so. No, it's not the love that a mother feels for their child but a form of love nonetheless.
Now, not to say that some may just say it to say it.... but I don't think that genuinely loving your students is so far-fetched.

But why is in inappropriate? I mean, they spend a lot of time with DC and I would like it if my son's daycare teacher loved him! I think it is healthy for DC to love people outside of just their family and to have that love shown to them as well.
I agree with Rachel and Stephanie, the more people that love my child, the better!

Re: Daycare moms...caregivers saying "I love you"
Cailen calls one of his teachers "mommy."
Appropriate or not, he genuinely feels love for her - why wouldn't it be reciprocated?
He loves hearing the words "I love you."
And there are going to be people in his life who will love him, and will tell him that.
I don't own the sole rights to those words when it comes to him.
Yes, i'm his mother and I love him more than anything, but I hope that he hears those words from many other people in his life.
Why not start now, at a time in his life when those words are the most important to him?

Re: Daycare moms...caregivers saying "I love you"
I have to say that I think its great. I am a teacher and I love my job because I love working with children. I love working with children cause I can find a place for them in my heart. Seriously, kids say "I love you" to caregivers all the time, I think it would be terrible if we didn't love them back...or atleast try to.
Actually I think it is very sad that we teachers/caregivers have to be so worried about being accused of something, but you just never know how parents will take it.

Re: Daycare moms...caregivers saying "I love you"
No, I don't think it is strange or inappropriate at all. We had a nanny and she used to say it all the time. Jeremy would even call her mama sometimes. I was so glad that she felt strongly enough around DS to say that she loved him. So much better than the alternative .
