If that was my son, I'd want you to go to the principal.

This. I would definitely say something, and to the principal. That poor little boy. I imagine if it were my DD and OMG I'd want to slam the teacher into a table! Chat Icon

Re: Daycare teacher was rough with child

Please Please go in.

DS told me the other day.. "why did Miss XXX say she had enough of me?"

I was so upset. I know by that statement that my DS was being awful. He is a handful. But, Man... to say that..as a teacher? NOT OKAY. I went to the director and we discussed it. I was 100% on her side about dealing with the behaviors but, NOT about someone talking to my 4 year old like that. And I made that clear.

It breaks my heart that your DH not only witnessed it being said but, also the child being pushed into the table.

If my husband saw that he would probably smack the assistant teacher!!!
All joking aside, I would absolutely tell the director !!

Why don't you want the assistant to get fired? If I saw someone treating a child that way, I would want them to get fired and fast! Especially if it is at the place where my child is going.

this..
I posted something similar about 2yrs ago. I was in tears I was so angry. I was going to hold off and tell the director later but ended up calling on the way to work. I was so angry. They did end up firing her.

She was my daughter's FAVORITE aide. AJ adored her and she was so kind and sweet with her. But I asked myself... for how long? How long until AJ catches her on a bad day or does something to upset her and AJ is the victim?

I also later found out they NEVER informed the parent of that child what happened even after reviewing the video of her. They didn't report the incident to the state either, even tho she had previously been investigated. They let her go and told families that she choose to move on. Lies all the way around. Without reporting it to the state, that woman is free to go work at another school and torture other children needlessly.

Stop the abuse.

Its this abuse that encourages bullying.
Its this abuse that changes a child's outlook of school and education
Its this abuse that goes unreported that encourages even stronger abuse

This is abuse... no child deserves to be a venting tool in a school environment.

This broke my heart and is my worst nightnare bc my DS has a speech delay, so I may never know if someone does something like this. Im so glad you guys decided to go to the director, and id make sure this is not only documented but that she no longer works there.

I would actually tell the parent! I would absolutely die if something like that happened to my baby and I didnt know about it. Do you know the Mom? I would NOT trust the school to handle

Absolutely, I am sorry but someone who does this to a child has no business working with children.

Daycare teacher was rough with child

Well I asked DH who the boy was, and he wasn't too sure. He described him in typical male fashion 'the little one with brown hair', but after more prodding I pretty much have it narrowed down to two who it could be. I don't know too many parents from there, as DH usually does the drop offs and I the pickups - so there are often different kids there when I am there, vs when he is there. Some leave early, some only go part-time.
But really, no need to Monday morning QB, he DIDNT go immediately into the office when he saw that. He called me and we talked about it and how we will handle it. Cut him a break. The point is, we are doing something about it, and it will be addressed formally with the principal tomorrow.

ETA: If I knew what boy it was, I would most definitely tell the parent(s).

If a person who I have entrusted my son to, forceably slammed him into a table and made him cry, I would expect that person to be fired or I would be pulling my child from that room. IMO that is grounds for firing. i also cannot imagine that the one and only time this person behaved this way was coincidentally the one time a parent walked in and saw it. I would go to the director and ensure that the matter was addressed and put on the record.

I'm sorry, but this is child abuse. Child welfare, the daycare director and the parents should all be notified. She should undoubtedly be fired.

Daycare teacher was rough with child

DH met with principal. He told her what happened, how he doesnt feel comfortable having her around little kids, etc. The prinicipal was very upset about it. Also, all the classrooms have running video, and by the front desk there are 4 flat screens showing a live feed of the classes. There was a perfect view of the classroom, and table area where this incident happened. She advised she would watch yesterday's video and take necessary action and also meet with the lead teacher to discuss with asst teacher's behavior.
She said she will meet with DH again at the end of the week with an update, but this will not be taken lightly.

Thank goodness for the video so she can see exactly what happened. I'm glad your DH spoke up and that the principal is taking it seriously. We all have to look out for each other and our kids! You did the right thing.

Thanks for going to the principal and for updating. It's great that they have the video so there's no room for he said/she said.

To the people saying he should have gone right to the administration, give me a break, hindsight is 20/20. The important thing is he did speak up and it's being addressed.

If you can figure out who the boy is, I'd try to tell the parents. I'm picturing this scenario in DD's class and I doubt I'd be able to figure out who the child was since DH does most of our pick ups/drop offs.

thank you and DH for speaking up. I just picture it being my little boy. I am so scared to send him to pre-school bc of stories like this. I hear them way too often nowadays.
