DD has a concussion. LONG
She'll be OK, if any one has any tips to aid her recovery please let me know.
We were playing in the backyard on Saturday our dog came running full speed around a corner right into DD, who is 4. They never saw each other. The dog took her feet right out from under her and she landed head first on cement.
Dazed for a minute then seemed OK but we were watching her closely. 20 minutes later started to seem sleepy so we got ready to go inside to assess her more closely. She gave us the answer and started vomiting.
Shoved the dog in the crate and got us all in the car, somehow with everything we needed except an extra jacket for DD. She vomited twice on the way and several more times in the ER poor little thing.
She was so brave, through exam, IV, placement of heart monitor, CT (which thank goodness was clear). Finally she was able to hold down liquids and we could come home.
Glad to say she woke up the next morning at her usual time her usual chipper self. Couldn't wait to go find the Elf on the Shelf. She remembers the entire incident and most of the ER visit. She knows her name, phone number and all other facts she knew before. Her large network of imaginary friends are all accounted for and in the places I knew them to be just prior to the concussion.
What I learned:
Stay calm. I don't know why but when faced with critical situations I become calm, collected, stoic and almost clairvoyant. I can't describe it but I'm glad to know I can do it.
Don't let your gas tank go below 1/2. 2 round trips to the hospital and no need to stop for gas. (DH had to go back to feed the dog and get a clean coat for DD to wear home.)
I keep an extra outfit and towel in my car for DD - even though she is fully potty trained it was nice to have clean clothes for her trip home.
Follow your instinct and speak up to the doctors. I made sure to point out that this lethargic, seemingly shy child was no way close to who DD is. I don't feel it took much for me to be heard but I was prepared to make sure I was.
It is possible to fully clean a car and carseat after what I can only call puke-aggedon. I now know all the inner workings of our carseat, down to it's skeleton and my car's backseat and seatbelt buckles. Nature's Miracle and lots of elbow grease and my car smells good as new.

Wow, scary! I am glad she is feeling better.
I am usually a panicker but when DD cut her forehead and needed stitches I was surprisingly calm. I think in urgent situations our mom brain just takes over and allows us to be calm and controlled.

Glad your DD is doing well. That must have been frightening.
Just read up on Post-Consussion Syndrome so you know what to look for.

I agree, my DS fell into our fireplace last Sunday and needed 20 stitches. I was completely calm during the entire ordeal but when I went to sleep that night, my stomach starting turning and I felt nauseous with the 'what if's'
Glad your DD is ok and those pointers are fantastic (I'm terrible at keeping my gas tank full)

Wow that is so scary - I am terrified that DS will fall head first on the cement.
So glad to hear your DD is ok
