DD was referred to an eye dr - anyone else?
I took DD for her 15 month check up on Friday and they did one of those eye tests in the office where the baby looks into this gun thing and it gives a print out. It said she has an astigmatism in I think one of her eyes. Of course I'm freaking out because I have such terrible eyes and large astigmatisms in both eyes. We go to a pediatric opthamologist on Tuesday, but did anyone else's kid have this? Did they have to wear glasses right away? Was the dr's test wrong when you went to an opthamologist?
Thanks!!

DD had the same test done but at 6 months old, they refferd us to the eye docter because they said the test result came back that she "may" be far-sighted in her left eye. We have a appt next week but with DD so young im not to sure how there going to do the test or what they will do to help her if she is. My doc said thats its a good chance there test was wrong like she may have moved a little but well see. Im a little nervous plus they said we will be there for about 2 hours! 2 hours with a 7 month old that dosnt sound like a good time to me! lol

My DD was provided that test at her 6 month apt and her 12 month. She wasn't cooperative during the 6 month, but at the12 month she showed a problem with how her eyes focused. We have an apt with a pediatric opthamologist in a month.

A lot of those are false positives but since you have a family history, it's possible. Don't worry, the earlier it's treated the better! Who are you seeing?
Good luck ad try not to worry

My DD has astigmatisms in each eye. She just turned 2 and is wearing glasses (when she keeps them on..such a struggle). We go back soon for a re check.
**My DD has been seeing a ped. eye dr. since she's a few months old as routine due to her being preemie and Down Syndrome**
She did not get the glasses right away, it was actually recently.

Re: DD was referred to an eye dr - anyone else?
My DD as astigmatism in one of her eyes and has to wear glasses, plus a patch on the good eye for 2 hours a day.
The doctor doesnt want her to get a lazy eye. This is the second time around with wearing the patch. Seh wore it for a few months and the eye got better, but we got a little lax with her wearing the glasses and since she didnt wear the glasses all the time she needed to wear the patch again.
Just make sure if she needs glasses or a patch she wears it. Its not easy but it has to be done in order to avoid lazy eye.
My DD was getting headaches...I took her to the ped for it and then he referred us to the opthamologist.

Re: DD was referred to an eye dr - anyone else?
My dd had the eye test at the peds at 15 months and came back for anisometropia(something like that lol)...one of her eyes is stronger than the other and she has the potential to get lazy eye. The peds repeated the test at 18 months and got the same result-so we went to the opthalmologist. They also got the same result but she is just below where the md would have recommended glasses plus he didn't think we had a chance of getting her to wear them yet-so he wanted us to go back in 6 months to check it again...what she has can possibly correct itself as she gets older too. Also-we were there for like 2 hours! they had to put the drops in and then we had to wait an hour...next time they are giving me the drops so i can put them in at home...but my dd was very uncooperative at the appt(not in the waiting room though just whenever they were doing things with her eyes)
