Has anyone had their infant referred to an eye specialist?
we had our 6 month well visit and both girls were referred to an eye specialist for an astigmatism. what exactly will the specialist do at this point since they are so little?

We had to bring DS to a specialist bc they thought he had a lazy eye (it runs in both families). He had his eyes dilated and had a bunch of different things around the room that he would have to look at.
The Dr. would use a remote to turn things on and off.

same here and took her for the same reason... she was only 4 months old so they only dilated her eyes and she examined them as well.

Re: Has anyone had their infant referred to an eye specialist?
My DS was at his 1 mth visit bc my ped. noticed his one eye would roll inwards. The Dr. dialated his eye and did a bunch of tests and actually diagnosed my DS as very farsided. Most babies are born farsided but my Ss was more than normal. Since then they have seen him twice and he is still more farsided than normal so he mite need glasses in 4 mths. He is 15 mths right now.

Same here at 3 months old for DD but for a clogged tear duct. They dilated her eye. had her look at a ton of objects around the room that either lit up or made noise that he turned on with a remote control and then the worst of it all was he had to push down really hard right in the corner of her eye where her tear duct was in both eyes - that was not fun because he told me it was going to hurt her and get ready to pick her up and sooth her right away afterwards
Good Luck
