Re: Deathly Hallows - only look if you have FINISHED the book
The epilogue made my day because I like neat, tidy endings and it always bugged me that Harry couldn't be with Ginny.
I cried when Fred died. and when I realized that Snape wanted to look at Harry before he died to see Lily's eyes... I knew he loved her, but I didn't realize how deeply.
I LOVED when Mrs. Weasley took on Bellatrix! I was practically jumping up and down. And when Harry was taunting Voldemort and calling him Riddle!!! FANTASTIC!
I'm so happy with how the book turned out! I think I want to read them all again.

I was mostly upset about Fred's death - I hated that a Weasly had to die :(
I was really afraid a Weasly was going to die, but there are so many of them, I felt the odds were stacked against them. I almost wish it had been Charlie or Bill, because we didn't get to know either of them as much as the others.
God, I'm talking as though these are real people.

Don't feel bad.. I cant stop thinking about the book. It is so silly, but I am just dying to talk about it all the time and none of my friends are done yet

I'm obsessed as well! I'm silently seething right now that DH is watching a movie instead of concentrating on finishing the book so we can discuss :P
And, half of the freewrites in my writing class have been about Harry Potter - analyzing the book and whatnot.

I've been trying to get DH to read these books for as long as I've known him, and he just refuses. I know we could sit for hours and go over stuff, but no luck. At least yours is reading it, though not with the enthusiasm you'd like.

Re: Deathly Hallows - only look if you have FINISHED the book
I have been dying to come into this thread and I finally finished...
I cried hysterically when Dobby died, when Fred died, and even when Tonks and Lupin died b/c their baby would be just like Harry...
But I think the killer was Snape's memories and Harry realizing he needs to die so that Voldermort can die. Those two chapters did me in...from then on it wasn't so bad...once Harry was with Dumbledore you realized he was going to live but I was still sad that the ending was coming and that the books were over. I'm actually tearing up as I write this thinking that I"m never going to read another Harry book again...
Overall, I think it was well done. I think the epilogue definitely closes the door on any continuation...and to be honest, I don't think it could ever be the same anyway.

Re: Deathly Hallows - only look if you have FINISHED the book
Last night I reread the epilogue and I kind of wished there was more about what happened to Luna and George...it really only mentioned Neville becoming a professor...also what Harry and Ron were doing.
And in a weird way...I kind of wondered what Dudley was up to and if Harry ever saw them again (I know, I'm supposed to hate him, but when he said goodbye to Harry in the beginning, I got teary eyed).

Me too!!! And I read it at work so I was glad no one stopped by my desk at that moment...since everyone in the office thought it was funny to interrupt me all day to talk about how far I had gotten in the book.

Re: Deathly Hallows - only look if you have FINISHED the book
I expected Neville to have the final confrontation with Bellatrix, but I LOVED the moment when Molly killed her. Definitely one of the best and most satiisfying moments in the entire series.
I also loved Harry called Voldy "Riddle."
I wish the epilogue had told us a lot more.
And as SOON as I saw the diadem Luna's dad was making I thought of the tiara in the RoR and I was like "Come on, Harry THINK!"

What did you guys think about when Ron and Hermione finally get together? I loved that Harry was like... "Seriously, THIS is the moment?!"
I actually thought that was weird because after the end of HBP I assumed Ron and Hermione were together the entire time. It was only when Harry said that when I thought "oh maybe I jumped the gun on this one" But it's been obvious since PoA. I thought the end of HBP was the beginning of their relationship, and the whole time in the tent I was thinking of how awkward it must have been for poor Harry

Re: Deathly Hallows - only look if you have FINISHED the book
just finished... i am so sad it has ended but love how she did it. What a brilliant imagination!!!
when reading the epilogue, I said to myself that she can create another series based on these new kids going to hogwarts if she really wanted to.
a lot of questions about what happened to certain characters: Dean Luna, the Malfoys, Hagrid etc... you really become invested in these characters!!!
i teared up with the chapter about snape.. i always had a feeling there was more to him than we knew- being that dumbeldore trusted him...
i felt pressure to finish reading the book since mys sisters were done days earlier but i just didnt want it to end!!!

Re: Deathly Hallows - only look if you have FINISHED the book
I was so sad about little Colin Creevey- the way he was described as "tiny in death"
I wonder who raised Teddy Lupin- Harry didn't. When Remus asked Harry to be the godfather, I felt like I should have seen his and Tonk's deaths coming. I was surprised that she killed them off.
DH is reading it now too- I can't wait till he's finished.

I think Tonks's mother survived. She was watching Teddy during the battle for Hogwarts. I just assumed she raised Teddy.

Re: Deathly Hallows - only look if you have FINISHED the book
Finally finished last night...it was beautiful! Could not have asked for it to end any better. To echo what Deb said, BRAVA, JKR!!
Reading Snape's memories was the most moving for me...I knew he loved Lily, but didn't realize to what extent. I am so glad he was vindicated - there was no way Dumbledore trusted him if he was evil...I always suspected he was a spy for Dumbledore.
I can't believe how many people died...I was sad when Tonks & Remus died.
For some reason I always connected her story to the Holocaust - really, any story of good & evil. A lot of this last book reminded me of the last LoTR.
All in all, I loved it...sad to see it end

That's not a baby, that's what's left of Voldemort...a not-quite-human, miserable, suffering creature.

Quite true, since when Harry comes back to reality, Voldemort is on the ground and the Death Eaters are surrounding him wanting to help.

Re: Deathly Hallows - only look if you have FINISHED the book
I liked it, but I didn't love it.
I knew at the end of Book 6 that Dumbledore must have instructed Snape to kill him- to free Draco from the burden.
I also knew that Harry was a Horcrux.
I didn't like the part where Harry learns that Dumbledore intended for Harry to die fighting Voldemort.
I always thought that Serious would come back, so I was disappointed that he didn't.
I figured one of the twins would be killed.
I wish she would have tied up the ends a little bit better- let us know what happened with the other characters and give us more detail about the adult lives of the main characters.
Also, I would have liked to have learned more about James Potter- did Harry have grandparents on that side? Why couldn't he ever meet them?
I've always thought the story was a great way to teach children about biases and racism and how they're wrong.

JK told about the lives of the characters at adults more in an interview the other day. Someone posted the link on this fourm somewhere.
From what I remember she said harry and ron are aurors, hemione is working for magical law enforcement

I saw. I just don't see why she didn't include that in the epilogue. And, as someone else asked, what happened with George?

Yea. I see what you mean, but I think she was right in that no matter how much info she gave in there, it wouldnt be enough and she said it didnt flow right. I am sure she will do the encyclopedia thing in the future and tell us more.

Re: Deathly Hallows - only look if you have FINISHED the book
I just finished the book and all I can see is bravo What a beautiful way to end a wonderful series of books. I was so happy with the ending.
I think no matter what, there will always be questions about what happened to this character and that character. This book could go on for another thousand pages to tie every loose end of each character. But I LOVED the epilogue. Sure I wished there was more, but I was happy with what she gave us.
She really portrayed death in such a wonderful way that young adults could really understand. It was almost comforting to those of us who have lost someone we love. The deaths were so sad, especially Fred, Dobby, Lupin and Tonks.
I definitely think this book (and the series) was meant to be a lesson for tolerance and a metaphor for the holocaust/Japanese encampments and other wars when people of different nationalities-beliefs had to "register".
I also thought Neville would finish off Bellatrix but i LOVED Mrs. Weasley doing it- and her line. There were lots of great moments in this book. I think it really will translate well to a movie.
Overall, I loved it!
