Re: CIO- i posted several times sorry
i had issues when i went into my daughter too - so we just let her cry and she got it thankfully
I know this is not what you want to hear, but like my pediatrician told us, some babies just arent good sleepers at a young age (how old is your LO?) maybe he isnt ready for CIO - it took us two tries (3 weeks apart) before it worked.
also - are you still at your parents house or are you home?

how old was your daughter when she got it? My LO will be 7 months next week.
I stayed at my apt last week and we did the ferber method, prior to that we tried soothing when he cried etc- but that didnt work- so i toughed it up and been at my parents since Sat night- i was going to go home and give up byt my son needs to sleep in his crib

Re: CIO- i posted several times sorry
How old is he?
I did full blown CIO when my DS was 7 months. He was sleeping in his swing up uintil then, I had to move him into the crib which he hated so had to do CIO.
It DOES get better, trust me! Our Ped always told us no baby has ever got hurt from crying, it's harder on us then them.
Are you going into the room at all? If so don't because they will always expect you to. I used to run the TV up so loud, turn the monitor vol off so I couldnt hear him screaming in my face and I would watch the monitor light go from green to red all night......
make sure your LO naps in the crib also, just keep sticking to it.
By day 4 he slept like a dream!

we tried it when she was around 6 months and it didnt work at all - she was hysterical, not sleeping, screaming, coughing etc. so we tried when she was closer to 7 months and it worked.
maybe have your parents stay by you to help out? i know with my kids, they sttn at home but anytime their environment changes they wake during the night.
have you tried putting on white noise or music? not sure if it will help, but it cant hurt (for him not you ) although white noise for you may not be a bad idea

Since he likes the snug feel on the rnp, have you tried swaddling just his torso and legs and seeing if that helps?

Could he be teething?
We did CIO with DS 1 and if he woke up in the middle of the night and cried for more than 5 minutes, something was usually wrong.

Re: CIO- i posted several times sorry
if i remember correctly we had 1 bad night a few nights in then it was easier. It def took us us longer then 3 days but after that we were golden.
I wouldn't give up tonight. I would try again and see how it goes.

Is he in a crib at your parents house that isnt his? This might be throwing him off. Try putting in a T-shirt you've worn with your scent on it. I did the same thing -- CIO without going in, bc going in made him soo much worse. Took 4 days. Good luck -- this totally SUCKS and I get it. Hope you get through tonight!!!

Yes, he is in a crib at my moms which is the one he uses for nap time. He has a stuffed monkey he sleeps w at nap time etc so he does have that with him

CIO- i posted several times sorry
I think all babies are different. I never did cry it out and dd used to wake multiple times a night. Good nights were 2x and bad nights 4-6x. I felt she needed me and I was able to get her back down to sleep. She didn't start sleeping through the night until about 21-22mos and even now at 25mos she sometimes wakes and is calling for me and I recover her and she goes back down.
He is still very young. Maybe he needs you? Maybe try again in a few more months when he is older?

Re: CIO- i posted several times sorry
Im sorry. CIO is not easy. With DC1 it was so smoothly, and with DC2 it was a whole different experience, so I feel your pain.
My experience actually similar to yours in that every time we thought we were successful and had a good night, the next night would be a regression. But don't give up. It will eventually work! It was a a few weeks of ups and downs but now LO gets great night time sleep and he is happier during the day and napping better too.
Even now, months later, DC will sometimes cry for a minute or two, realize we aren't coming and plop down in the crib and go right to sleep. So don't worry, there is a light at the end of the tunnel
ETA - The long-ish periods of crying didn't last for weeks. After a few nights, at most we would have to go through 30-45 minutes of on and off crying.

Re: CIO- i posted several times sorry
I think you need to do it at home. DS sleeps best at home, and especially when he was young, didn't sleep well in other environments. I believe it will work better if you do it at your apt.

CIO- i posted several times sorry
My DD did not STTN until 13 mo and not consistently until at least 18mo. We tried EVERYTHING, every method, every trick, nothing ever worked, no matter how many nights we kept trying. Then, right around 13 mo, she just STTN. Just like that. We didn't have to try anything.
While I'm not against CIO, as it's something I've tried many times, I fully believe that sometimes, kids just aren't ready. My DD wasn't. It was a long, difficult 13mo (and then random weeks after that when she decided not to sleep again), but it really DOES get better. Good luck, I hope your little guy starts sleeping soon and you get luckier than we did!

I agree with previous posters about doing it back at your house bc even if he does SSTN eventually at your parents the change back home may alter it. I know you mentioned you need them for the support, cant they maybe stay by you for a few nights? I did CIO with both my kids and neither took longer than a week. I was semi strict with it since my kids had binkies. I would make sure they had the binkie. Then after 10-15 mins of crying i would go in and give binkie again and walk out. I can recall 2 times with each of them it last 45 min to an hour. For the times they did stop crying and go down, but woke up sometime later, I would run in there hoping to get the binkie in their mouth before they could realize what was happening. that worked.

I agree that you need to do this at home. Even though you are at your moms, it's not his crib & will be back to square one when you get to your own home.
Also, he is probably teething. So will be 2 different cries so kinda gotta figure out when to CIO & when to go & give him orajel

I would work on sleep training at your house where he will be sleeping.
It sounds like he may not be ready yet and I would not let him cry for that long.
There are many many babies that don't sleep through the night (my toddler doesn't), you are not alone and it doesn't mean you are doing anything wrong he may just need you right now. This won't be forever.

Update
So last night was horrible again 4 straight hours and on and off crying and complaining
We are heading home tonight after 4 nights of no progress
I am going to try again tonight- we live in an apt so we should all hope we don't get kicked out! 3 hours of screaming on a work night is not nice

I do believe CIO works, but 4 hours is a long time and it's only getting worse. I would finish out the week in his own crib, and if it's not better I might hold off for another week or two, maybe more. If he's possibly teething or getting sick this is the wrong time to do CIO. It could do more harm than good.
Oh and if you happen to be friendly with your neighbors I would give them a heads up about what you are doing.
