Design help - where to put tv?

Hello,

Can someone provide their design skills and help me decide where to put the couch and tv in our new apartment.

Here is a floor plan of our apartment:
<img src = "http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l74/jkd_guy/home/1.jpg">

The BLUE is the window
The Green are doors (bedroom/front door/bathroom/kitchen)
The Red is a window from the kitchen into the living room

Unfortunately that kitchen window is really messing up our ideas.

Here are some ideas
Purple is the couch, Yellow is the tv (drawing is not to scale)

<img src = "http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l74/jkd_guy/home/2.jpg">
Put the TV between the kitchen window and the bedroom door
problem with that is, with the tv right next to the door, the sound will be loud.

<img src = "http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l74/jkd_guy/home/3.jpg">
Put the tv on the window sill and the couch facing it.
Problem with this is - we'll be sitting with our backs facing the front door the whole time, and that feels awkard.

<img src = "http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l74/jkd_guy/home/4.jpg">
TV against the wall - this is the most traditional way
But the couch is RIGHT in front of the bedroom door.
The distance of the living room is not big, about 12 feet.
So the couch will be basically right up against the door, the door might not even be able to open all the way.

<img src = "http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l74/jkd_guy/home/5.jpg">
TV in the middle of the room
Seems weird to have a tv sitting right in the middle of a room, and the glare from the window will make the tv hard to see

Anything I havent thought of?

Design help - where to put tv?

Is there enough space to put the tv kitty corner next to the window and then your smaller couch on the big wall and bigger couch facing the window? (like the 2nd just modified a little?)

Option 1. I don't think the tv being near a door is a big deal.

Or, don't put a tv in the living room if you have a den or basement where you can watch tv.

Thanks for the help. Not sure why my post did not work.

Do you mean here? (Silver star - I am attaching the picture to this post)
Same issue as in front of the window.
We'll be sitting with our backs to the rest of the apartment/front door.
This seems awkard...almost as if we were in class and forced to stand in the corner.

Maybe...its also between the door and the kitchen window, so it might be in the way of the door. (we haven't moved in yet)

>Or, don't put a tv in the living room if you have a den or basement where you can watch tv.

Its a 1 bedroom apartment, so the living room is our only option.

Thanks everyone!

This seems to be the closest.

Can you move the TV to the left ( closer to the front door & put the couch in front of the kitchen window?

Also, do you know how the previous tenants set it up? (Can you tell by how the cable wires are?)

>>Can you move the TV to the left ( closer to the front door & put the couch in front of the kitchen window?

The problem with that is...it cuts off the room/uses up a lot of space.
The way it is in the picture - it leaves the whole left side open for a small dining table.
If we move the tv and couch over, then the left side is a bit tight for a dining table, and the right side would be too small for a dining table.

Also...we are thinking of putting stolls at the kitchen window so we can eat there also...or maybe not.
Once we move in, we'll be able to see if thats feasible.

But if we do have the stolls, it might be tight with the couch.

But then again...your idea does sound like the best so far (although we do have the "cut the room in half" problem)

lol, I don't think they had a tv!
We saw 1 picture from the online ad for the apartment, and they had the dining table on the right side near the window, then couches on the left side. But no tv in the picture.

can you put tv on wall across from bedroom door, and a couch in front of window and a couch in front of bedroom door (with enough space to walk in and out obviously)? One of our couches is in front of our front window, not really a big deal! I actually like it!

then everything faces out and is open

Thats sort of like option 3...

the issue is...the living room is about 12 feet.
Door has an arc of about...3 feet? (Im guessing at numbers now)
Couch is about 4 feet deep? (still guessing, havent gotten couch yet)

So thats 7 feet taken up out of 12.
So the front of the couch to the wall is 5 feet...is that too close for a tv?

It sounds to me like this isn't the ideal layout, and you'll just have to make due with what you have. Or keep looking for a new apt.

I'd take measurements and see if option 1 would work. You can't/shouldn't block the doorway with a couch. Putting the tv in the middle of a window is asking for trouble, and putting it in the middle of the room means you'll walk in and be staring at the back of a tv. None of these solutions are ideal, but you have to make it work.

I agree with above poster. Assuming you have a flat screen I would mount it on the wall between the kitchen window and bedroom door and look for a small decorative cabinet for your boxes etc. This way your TV is not the Star of your room and you have plenty of open space for seating and dining.
Enjoy your new home!

Hi Fran and JDubs,

The problem with option 1 is...theres not much room between the bedroom and the kitchen window.
=(

Here's a small picture of the space between the bedroom doors and the kitchen window

The layout is really tough, oh well.

NYCGirl,
You're right - no ideal solution. We'll have to just come up with something.
