Desperate for advice.....stomach issues. Update on last page
Over the past 5 years I have had tons of tests done....3 endoscopes, a colonoscopy, hida scan, and sonos. The only thing it revealed was GERD.
For the past almost 5 weeks I have had diarrhea that is mostly water. I went to my PCP and we did a stool test which came back normal. My diarrhea happens mostly at 4 am and lasts until around 12. I can go like 10-15 times within that time frame. Oh, I also have nasty burps...so nasty that my DH says who farted but that was my burp.
I finally made an appt on Friday with a new gastro and he basically told me it was ibs and to eat more fiber and relax my mind and stop stressing. He also took blood to test my CBC and thyroid.
Well forward to today. I tried to follow docs instructions and had some broccoli and bought fiber one cereal. Well last night it started earlier. I was up 3 times last night and when I woke up my stomach did not feel well at all. I ended up vomiting up my dinner from 6 pm last night. I have had nonstop diarrhea even after taking kaopectate. So I called the doc again and he said that he thinks i have a severe case of ibs and to keep the follow up appt in 3 weeks.
Is this normal for ibs? I have had ibs forever but never had diarrhea for 5 weeks straight. Any advice would be great.

Sounds like Crohn's disease. I have Crohn's. I hope you get answers soon and feel better soon!! Fm me if you want to chat abt CD.
Have you been tested for cdiff?
If you have Crohn's, lay off the fiber. Fiber is a no-no.

I was just going to say C. Diff. I had it and it is really bad. Profuse, watery d. It is a specific test, not just the culture. I would be requesting this test if I were you. I don't know much about chrons.

I wouldn't wait for the appt. you will be dehydrated and have malnutrition. Get to the dr ASAP. Also, cdiff is contagious if you have that. I would go to the er if your gastro won't see you now.

I am 99% sure I had c diff a few years ago. I was tested twice and both came back negative. Were you on any antibiotics before things got really bad? It took a lot of probiotics and several months of an antibiotic (flagyl) to finally shake it.

I don't think they tested me for cdiff. I didn't take antibiotics but I am on a PPI, and I've read that u can get it from them

Re: Desperate for advice.....stomach issues.
From my experience, I will share what I did. First, I started writing everything I ate/drank for a week or so, as per the gastro. I was on a BRAT diet, but that didn't help. I went to a food allergist. I was tested weekly with a skin press over a few months. I was told about what I was sensitive to and allergic to. I used this and eliminated everything and slowly reintroduced until I could pinpoint what I could tolerate. This helped me immensely. My friend had stomach issues, and although she does not have celiac/gluten intolerance, she is eating gluten free and feels amazing. I hope you feel better!!

Where do you live and which GI's have you seen. I work in the field and maybe I can help.

I live in deer park. I used to see mirsky in garden city but stopped going when I quit my job in garden city. I then saw saxena in w islip, but he doesn't take my new insurance so I just went to a dr braunstein in lindy.

If you don't have this problem any other time during the day, I would examine what you are eating or taking at night before you go to bed.
Also PPI's do more harm than good in the long run. I would start researching them and look for an alternative.

Re: Desperate for advice.....stomach issues.
Before I was diagnosed w Crohn's and started my meds, I would be up early in the morning and then go all morning. Even now on the meds, it's most active in the morning.

agree with the others, this sounds like colitis, or possibly Crohn's. Have you been keeping a food journal

Thanks for all your responses. I'm seeing a different gastro tomorrow since I can't get in to mirsky. Hopefully he will do some tests. Of course, this morning it's not as bad. Kinda like a tooth ache....once u go to dentist the pain goes away. Lol. Ill fill you in on what he says.

My MIL had Cdiff and was suffering for 6 weeks. We advised her to go and get a high quality refrigerated probiotic within 2 days-totally cured. She got hers at Whole Foods...not sure of the name but the people that work there are all pretty knowledgable

This. Have your dr test your stool for c. diff. I had c. diff last year and I had all the symptoms you had...especially the waking up in the early hours with diahhrea. If it comes back negative, have them run it again for c. diff. It sometimes doesn't show on the first test.

I went to a new doc on Friday and he is testing for every thing first. Cdiff, giardia, certain markers for colitis, etc. lots of blood work including electrolytes. He thinks it might be coming from my small intestines and isn't convinced that it is IBS. But I am happy I went to him. The other doc didnt even do any significant tests. This doc was very thorough. It's a wait and see for the results. I'm still having diarrhea. It sucks!
I let you know when those results come back, but I'm sure i will have to have procedures done.

Re: Desperate for advice.....stomach issues.
Good luck! I had an M2A on Monday. Is he going to do that to see your small intestine? It's a capsule endoscopy (I swallowed a pill w a camera in it).

Re: Desperate for advice.....stomach issues.
I've been there! It sounds like Crohn's to me. Mine is in my large intestine, but it can be anywhere in your GI tract. A small bowel series and a ct scan would be helpful too if your labs come back normal. A colonoscopy would also be helpful. Good luck!

So I got the results. Everything is fine except for my C-reactive protein. It's a little high. He is scheduling me for an endoscopy and a colonoscopy on Thursday. So who know what's wrong, if anything.
