If DH won't "let" me get a play kitchen for a DS (should ever have a DS), I would end up buying the Rose Petal cottage complete with all appliances.
Either one of us can disqualify a gift based on price, space, safety, etc but no one lets the other do anything.
From DDs day care it seems all kids love the play kitchens.

Get it for him anyway..i hate sexist toys, no reason for it..i'd also buy him a doll and a vacuum cleaner as well.
My girls have both boys and girls toys.
What's he afraid of if you get him a kitchen? He'll turn feminine or his penis will turn into a vagina?

Little Tikes makes this one. Does not look too girly too me! TRU has it on sale for $139. We have a different one for DS for Christmas but if it has been a bit cheaper, DH would have wanted that one. He liked that it had a grill so it was more "manly".

I dont think it is a girl thing. I'm sure your DH knows that is a great career. He probably wants your son to be something manly and doesn't think men should be in the kitchen. Which is silly imo.
My DS had the fisher price kitchen and I would like to get him one of the Step 2 bigger kitchens one day.

My brother is a chef. If the reasons for not getting it is he wants DS to get an easier job with health benefits when he grows up then maybe I wouldn't buy it. The reasoning that it is a "girl toy"? No way.

thanks girls..u made me feel alot better. i'm going to INSIST we get it but i think DH is coming around to the item now that i mentioned his nephew has one too.
as for grandmom (my own mother)...she said she won't get it unless DH agrees  that's another vent...

I was just talking with a librarian about this.... She said that most boys play with the kitchen sets more so then the girls and its a GREAT toy for them to us there imagination with
