DH's 30th bday? Party or no?
My DH is soon turning 30. He mentioned in passing that he didn't want to spoil the surprise I was planning. uhhhhh I never even thought about it! So, did you plan a party for your DH's 30? If it was you, would you want one? Also, we have a relatively small condo, so I think I would have to have it at a restaurant or something, and we are trying to save up for a house...I don't want to let him down though....

I threw one for my DH before we were married. He always said that he HATES surprises - but he totally loved it! I love parties anyway. We just threw one for my sister - it rocked!! I say go for it!

Hmm, I would definitely plan something, but if you don't want to do a whole party, maybe plan a surprise outting or a surprise weekend getaway? I'm a baby, so i'd definitely want the party

Thanks for all the suggestions! Any ideas on a not so expensive way to do it (keeping in mind our 1 bedroom condo won't fit everyone)?
People that did it, did you rent a restaurant or hall?

See, that's me too. I would rather do a weekend away with DH, but he has a huge group of guys he grew up with, and I think he wants all of them there.

Re: DH's 30th bday? Party or no?
I had no intentins of throwing my DH a party for his bday. We were just going to do something nice with another couple but then everyone said how much he would love a party and I felt bad. Well I am throwing him a party and I it is turning out to be exactly why I didnt want to throw one. I wanted to save it and be on an island in January.
I do know that DH is going to love it and that is what is all about. Good luck!

That's a great idea, but it's actually in the winter. I just thought I might have to plan early because it is Dec 23rd and I was thinking if I rent something places might get booked since it is so close to xmas...
I would much rather a summer thing where we could have beer and a bbq...
ETA: He really would be surprised though if I plan it for August!

We had our engagement party at Sunken Meadow or your condo may have an area where you can hold a bbq. Some condo's also have a party room that you can reserve.

So maybe do an small dinner, a private room party. Some places offer prices for a dish and are reasonable and invite the closet friends and family.

We do, but it costs $500 to rent. That might end up being an option though...

Re: DH's 30th bday? Party or no?
How many people do you want to invite? The area available at your condo maybe okay. My Dh bday is next month. Dec is going to be $$$. It isn't just the money which it costing a a lot its the drama planning a party causes. but that could just be my DH crazy family.
If you think he really wants one you can work it out.

I am thinking maybe 30 or 40? I also don't know whether to do friends and family or just friends...His friends would really just want beer and alcohol, but family involves babies and grandmas and much more civilized food and drink.

Re: DH's 30th bday? Party or no?
I threw one for my husband when he turned 30. It was GREAT. However, I did not want one when I turned 30 b/c me and two of my friends had a joined party for the 3 of us for our 30th and I certainly did not want another one. I also felt it would be highly unfair.
If you still have some time, I'd definitely try and throw him one, especially since he hinted. He may be disappointed if you dont end up having one.
ETA: I understand you said you are trying to save for a house but your hubbie only turns 30 once, and if it sets you back a few months or so, then be it. YOu dont have to spend too much money to have a good time. If you are trying to save, dont invite the world, maybe his CLOSEST friends or people who he would definitely want to be there. You can look into a few restaurants.......or even take him to dinner, let him think its just the two of you, and then have like maybe 10-15 of his friends or family meet you guys at the restuarant so he is surprised everyone is there for him to celebrate.

I would stick to friends and maybe his parents can do a sep. family party or something? The Hibernian hall in babylon charges $7 a head for beer and wine or something ridiculously cheap and then there is the room fee of $200 or $300. You would still have to get a DJ tho so it could still wind up costing you $$. hmmmm at least you can do a combo christmas and b-day party which is nice!

I threw a party for my DH - it was a surprise and he was floored.
We had a lot of people - about 80 and I think it was around $4000.00. It was totally worth it in my opinion.
