How many people do you want to invite? The area available at your condo maybe okay. My Dh bday is next month. Dec is going to be $$$. It isn't just the money which it costing a a lot its the drama planning a party causes. but that could just be my DH crazy family.
If you think he really wants one you can work it out.
I am thinking maybe 30 or 40? I also don't know whether to do friends and family or just friends...His friends would really just want beer and alcohol, but family involves babies and grandmas and much more civilized food and drink.
I would stick to friends and maybe his parents can do a sep. family party or something? The Hibernian hall in babylon charges $7 a head for beer and wine or something ridiculously cheap and then there is the room fee of $200 or $300. You would still have to get a DJ tho so it could still wind up costing you $$. hmmmm at least you can do a combo christmas and b-day party which is nice!
ohhh thanks that is good to know about the Hiberian Hall! And it totally s*cks doing bday and xmas shopping!

Re: DH's 30th bday? Party or no?
I threw a surprise party for DH for his 30th and we had fun, I don't know if we surprised him, but I tried...
I turn 29 this year, so I don't even have a clue what we would do for my 30th, but I am impossible to surprise so he'd be better off throwing it on my 29th to have a shot

If you want to do something at the AOH in Babylon, FM me - I have my connections
Also, Beth, I held my DH's 40th (I didn't know him when he was 30!) at Lily Flanaghan's in Islip and they did an awesome job. The food was great and they have a side room with a deck off the bar that was perfect. Their own DJ was good too and only charged me $300. Then there was a band that came on at 11 so we had a really great night.

Watch out for the new place opening in Hutley's. It was bought by Lessings and I think it's going to be a bar/restaurant.
I just checked my handy-dandy notebook and they charged me $33 a head on a Saturday night for 3.5 hours of full open bar and buffet with chicken wings, shephard's pie, steak and broccoli, chicken franchaise and penne ala vodka) salad and rolls.

Re: DH's 30th bday? Party or no?
OH good idea! For my sister, we did Nutty Irishman in Farmingdale. It was beer, wine and well drinks. Then we had salad, sandwiches, wings, penne a la vodka etc. We did the cocktail party one that was about $23 a head. We had it before the doors opened, I think 630-1030 or something, then the doors opened to the public and the bands went on. That was in March.
The library is a little more low-key so we didnt do that, but they are also very reasonably priced- $28.95 w/domestic beer and house wine------$33.95 (Fri & Sat Night)

Thanks! The numbers are really helpful for figuring out how much this would cost...Now, how do I take all the $$$ out of our account without him noticing and spoiling the surprise?

Re: DH's 30th bday? Party or no?
I threw DH a surprise party for his 26th birthday because his 25th was sort of overlooked (we got married the day before). I just had it at his parent's house, invited his friends and family and had my brother's deli cater it.
For my 30th, he threw me a surprise party and it was held at my parent's house and catered by my brother's deli again.
You could really surprise him and throw him a party at my parent's house! He'd never suspect it!!!!

Re: DH's 30th bday? Party or no?
I've had surprise parties for DH in the past and he's made it very clear that he doesn't want me to make a big deal out of his 30th- which is at the end of this month. I may just have a bbq, or make dinner reservations for us and a couple of his closest friends for dinner and just pick up the tab.

Re: DH's 30th bday? Party or no?
I think you should go for it! Too funny that G assumes you're planning something . I know that I would never throw Joe one, but that's just because he HATES any celebration directed towards him, but I know G would love something. I don't know where you could do something though. Depending on how many guests, you're more than welcome to have something here

Re: DH's 30th bday? Party or no?
I threw a dinner at a restaurant for his close friends. We had about 25 people (immediate family, friends and wives) and he loved it. He didn't want a big party, and yet he was surrounded by his best friends on his special day. Good food, good wine, Good friends, that's what it's all about :)

Re: DH's 30th bday? Party or no?
Hey Beth, you could do it our house if you like. I think at the October Party we had about 30 -35 people.
You know we love entertaining!
Gregg loves poker, you could do a poker, cocktails, and hors D' oeuvres party?
Then all you would have to pay for is food and the drinks. No site fee.
