who does that? what the hell is wrong with people???? with FAMILY?
i cannot ever in a million years imagine myself telling someone they couldn't use my couch for their TINY BABY. not pre child and certainly not now.
and I also cannot imagine thinking that someone in my family should lug a play pen to my house every time they visit with the eleventy hundred other things they lug about when having a child.
it's stuff like this that makes me lose my faith in humanity.
where I come from, you figure it out and make it work for the people around you. your family. those that you love.
I would have built you a cradle out of a drawer and some old table legs if I had to, so you could join us for dinner!! how uneffingbelievable!!
MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY!!!! I mean we're family for goodness sake and we are guests in their home. I guess making a sleeping baby comfy was too much to ask from her
And thank you everyone for all your kind words

I don't think you were wrong at all. I would have done the same and just held DS then switched with my DH.

Re: DH's family....a vent...was I wrong??
Sorry. I'm going to play devil's advocate here...
I have a really NICE WHITE couch in one room that I didn't let anyone sit on for the holidays. There would be no way in heck I'd let a kid nap on it. I wouldn't even let my kid nap on it. It's my grown up room... no food, only white wine allowed.
I do have regular couches which I feed our kid on & is welcome. My family changes their kids on it.
I did have 5 SMALL children over... one of which I took to nap in our pack n play, after I offered our own crib. The others were offered our own beds. (Up against a wall with chairs against them).
The floor is unacceptable. It's dirty... and we don't allow shoes (that's another story... MIL hates taking off her shoes... among 30 people, she is the one I have to tell 3 times and she knows the rule!)
Next time... bring something your kid would like to nap in... a portable swing, a chair, ect. It'll make life easier. I do this every time I bring DS anywhere.

I understand where you are coming from. But trust me this was no new white couch. I wouldn't never have asked if DS could nap there if it was. Her own kids nap on it....why couldn't mine? Like I said before I always make sure I have everything I need for DS when I visit. I even brought along my own paper towels (so I wouldn't waste hers) to wash & dry DS's dirty bottles in the sink. Ultimately my feeling was that this is family....I didnt expect to be left out of Xmas dinner b/c SIL was afraid of "potential" spit up on her couch.
