Did anyone else's DC lose hair when trying to rub off cradle cap?

Dr. told me to use mineral oil and a q-tip, not a comb because DD's hair follicles are so sensitive(due to an agressive vacuuming at birth). But I just tried this and with every bit of cradle cap would come several strands of hair. DD cannot afford to lose this hair because of the other problem with her follicles. This happen to anyone else?

when My dc had cradle cap, i left it alone. he only had it for a week. I made sure not to put a hat on him when he was indoors

ETA I only wash his hair once a week w/ mustela foam shampoo. I found that the more I wash the worse it becomes.

That's a tough one. I used EVOO ( it worked way better than baby oil) and a fine tooth comb and my DD did definitely loose hair this way so its a good thing you aren't doing it. A few girls on here said there is a special cradle cap shampoo at BRU from Johnsons I believe. Maybe that would work? DD had it happen twice and that was it, but I only wash her hair about three times per week.

my DS was also born using the vacuum. i don't think it affected his hair, but i don't know for sure. he has cradle cap pretty badly and has for several months (he's 5 months). he lost most of his hair from about 4 weeks-2.5 months. it only started growing back at about 3 months.

i don't know how old your DD is, but if she's a newborn, many babies lose most of their hair several weeks after birth. it could be that you're noticing it because you're brushing it so much. DS used to leave dozens of hairs on his sheets.

don't worry though--regardless of the reason, it WILL grow back!Chat Icon
