Did anyone have a hard time with installing teh car seat?
WHere did you put it in the car? Center, behind passenger/driver? I read the center is the safest..but what did all of you do?
Also, was it difficult to do? We have the Graco 35, and for some reason, I am extremely thrown off by the whole thing!

We didn't have a hard time. We installed it behind the passenger seat because the owners manual said it was safer on the sides than in the middle.
We got it inspected and had gotten it in pretty well - they told me the key is to put your knee in the base while you are pulling the strap tight.

we had a hard time at first with our convertible seats. we watched some videos on the britax site that helped and the certified tech that check them said we did a fabulous job. maybe you can find some videos to help.

Re: Did anyone have a hard time with installing teh car seat?
honestly it took me 15 mins at MOST. It would have been faster but DH was "helping."
the "safest" part of the car depends on the car. my husband's Nissan Altima has the LATCH systems on the driver and passenger sides. We decided to put on the passenger side b/c it has a lower rate of side impact accidents.
We also "doubled up" by using the LATCH and seat belt installation.

Re: Did anyone have a hard time with installing teh car seat?
I hate to be "that" person, but I just want to say that it is safest to get the car seat installed by your local police or fire department. Studies have proven that when installed at home, 80% of car seats are put in wrong.
Just wanted to say that, not to preach or anything, but I was unaware of this until someone else brought it to my attention.
We had DS carseat in the middle up until we changed it to the convertible carseat. We didn't like the latch system, and found the seatbelt to work so much easier for us.

Re: Did anyone have a hard time with installing teh car seat?
We just installed ours this week. We had a hard time installing it on the passenger side so we put it in the middle and it fit perfectly (as least we think so). My car has the latch system on both sides and in the middle. We have an appt this week to have it inspected to see.

putting the seat in the car, no..... putting the child in the carrier for the first time, well that was a different story.. poor kid was so squished we had to take him to my sil's to have her revamp the whole thing for him to fit

Re: Did anyone have a hard time with installing teh car seat?
We had to put the car seat on the drivers side in my car. The latch system did not fit around the passenger side because it folds down with the middle seat.

That is totally what I thought, and have gone nuts calling every precinct and fire department near me to see if they can do it, and all said that they don't do it anymore. They said that nobody is certified to do it, and if they did it, it would be as favor, and they have no special training in how to instal them. One guy told DH "You're basically asking a total stranger to install your child's car seat". It was really upsetting, but we are having neighbors who have kids help us out.

I'm sorry, I should have noted that I live in NJ so it may be different on LI. They have inspections spots all over for you just to pull up, and they are usually EMT who do it. He was certified, but you are right it is a favor and they don't have to do it. I also know that Babies R us also has a similar thing, and they are certified to install as well. Maybe try looking into babies r us on LI and see if they hold the same things as they do in NJ? Otherwise I think your smart to take it to people who have children, since my husband is now very handy with it since DS lol.

actually, the state troopers on LI are certified and prefer if you put it in first and then they check it (and fix it if necessary). it is important that you learn to put your seat in properly yourself. you won't be able to run to a certified tech every time you need a seat installed/moved...like when you get a new car, go on vacation and have a rental, etc. it is important to have it checked and to learn to do it right, but you need to know how to do it too.
