Did anyone hear O'Reilly's advice for McCain?
It was on his show last night - he said that the only way McCain can win is if he has a press conference with Rudy Guiliani and Mitt Romney - and he announces that Rudy will be his Attorney General (and will prosecute the bad lenders/crooked CEOs) and Romney will be the Secretary of the Treasury.
I thought it was interesting advice - any thoughts?
. . . and yes - I'm an Obama supporter who watches O'Reilly sometimes.

I am not a fan of O'Reilly, but he has made some good points lately.
McCain needs to do something if he is going to win. I hate to say it, but things are not looking good right now for him.

very interesting, and i would say accurate. McCain needs to have someone on his team that independents and other people can get behind. Palin is NOT doing it for most people.

Re: Did anyone hear O'Reilly's advice for McCain?
That is good advice. Not everyone loves O'Reilly but I have to say - he is a smart man and he's a good man... very nice, down to earth. I like the guy - he is quality. A close family friend has been friends with him since HS - they still hang out several times a year and talk on the phone all the time. So, I was able to meet Bill through this family friend last year - love him!
PS - he went out of his way to sign a copy of his book for me - wrote a personal, nice message and everything - the close family friend took it, brought it to my wedding when he attended and included it with the card/gift for us! It was the highlight of our envelope opening!! Then, months later, when I met Bill in person he remembered that I was the one he signed the book for and asked about the wedding, etc!

Re: Did anyone hear O'Reilly's advice for McCain?
yeah, I think it's interesting. I like Bill O'Reilly, he actually cracks me up. Went to a book signing at Costco and met him..go figure.
I don't know if McCain will actually make some major announcements like that. I really don't know if Guiliani will do it for the rest of the country. NYCers know him best. (personally wasn't a fan). I think McCain nees someone more knowledgeable in the Treasury dept.

Re: Did anyone hear O'Reilly's advice for McCain?
I'm definitely pro Obama, but I like listening to him sometimes, to see what people think across the aisle. He's interesting.
Hmmm, I'm not pro Guiliani either, but he would probably tear into those who broke the law. He is good at going after people, I will say that.
It's a shame McCain didn't pick Romney--I think it would have helped him much more, though it's good for Obama that he did not.

I usually think O'Rielly is acrazy, raging lunatic, but he might just have something here.
I really think that Palin is hurting him with the independents. She is getting the republican base fired up, but these are people that are voting for him already, they really need to concetnrate on the undecided voters, and the negative attacks right now especially Palin's ae not gonna win any votes.
I really try to wath O'rielly so that I can get a perspective from the rigtht side, but its hard to watch!

Palin is getting the very conservative republican votes for McCain. Those are votes he was in danger of losing to a third party Conservative or Right-to-Life party candidate.
I don't disagree about the comments re: her and independents, but the conservative Republicans she is picking up were NOT necessarily people who would have voted for McCain anyway.

Agreed but I think at the end of the day the conservatives would have voted for him, becasue they would Never vote for Obama.
And Palin scares most independents, which McCain desperately needs.

You're assuming they'd only vote Democrat or Republican. There are many conservative Republicans who would have voted Right to Life party or Conservative party over McCain because they feel he is not conservative enough on social issues. At the time he chose his VP, it was a huge issue that he was losing the more conservative Republican voters.
ETA - Whether winning those votes or the independent votes will be more important remains to be seen... but Palin was brought in to save the votes from more conservative Republicans. I think the McCain camp thought McCain himself appealed to independent voters at the time. Not saying they're right now... just saying why I think she was chosen over say Lieberman (my first choice for his VP pick).

Re: Did anyone hear O'Reilly's advice for McCain?
ITA. I think he figured the conservative voters were more of a sure thing if he picked the right VP. Independent voters are a great unknown--even with Lieberman, many of them may have selected Obama (though I suspect Liberman would be more appealing).
So she loses many votes for him, but she gets many too. All in all, he probably breaks even.

McCain needs to do something. My husband has been a McCain supporter for years and planned to vote for him in November....however since he picked Palin my husband is an undecided voter to this day.

Do you think Romney would go for something like this - or is he already raising money for his potential run in 2012?
