Did anyone not see a heartbeat, but then see it a few days later? - UPDATE
I really need some encouragement here .
UPDATE: Well, it is pretty much over. The doctor saw the fetal pole, but no heartbeat. He is sending me tomorrow for a sonogram at a radiologist, but isn't hopeful. Since my body clearly thinks I am still pregnant, a D&C will be required.

Don't have an answer but I do have
If you ovulated later than you thought, it might be too early to see the heartbeat. Did they send you for blood work to check the beta numbers?

yes, as of Monday my beta was up to 41k. the doctor said those were great numbers, definitely not miscarriage #'s. but as of Monday night, they couldn't see anything on the sono. I am going back tomorrow night and he said we have to see something, or assume the worse.

Using my LMP, I should be 9 weeks on Friday. The doctor thinks the timing could definitely be an issue, but with a beta # that high, we should see something.

Re: Did anyone not see a heartbeat, but then see it a few days later?
We had miscalculated my DD, and at my first visit we did not see anything. I went to a radiologist with a stronger machine and after much much movement of the wand & some extra skill by the tech we barely saw it.
Silly question, but did they do a trans-vaginal sono? I am 8w & still need an internal sono to see the HB.

they did an internal. I thought hubby was going to pass out when they pulled out that huge thing .
your story is encouraging - thank you!! The doctor said he is going to do the sono himself tomorrow, so I am hopeful!

We didn't see it at 5w6d but we did at 8w.
ETA: Both were transvaginal ultrasounds.

I'll be hoping for the best for you. Maybe you're timing is off, and your numbers are high because its twins! Don't they run in your family?!

You could have a tilted uterus and uit can be hard to see the baby that way. GL!

There are definitely twins in the family, but the most direct twins (my niece and nephew) were IVF, so I don't think that counts.
I'm still hoping the timing is off and we see something, anything tonight.

Karen I have heard tons of stories where they couldn't see a heartbeat and a few days later there it was. Since your numbers are so high I would be positive about seeing that little heart beating tonight

That happened to me - at my first appt i was like 5.5 weeks and there was nothing - just the sack - i went the following week for another sono and the heartbeat was there and going strong.. its hard not to worry but im sure it will be ok

Re: Did anyone not see a heartbeat, but then see it a few days later?
how far along are you?
my dr. wouldn't even try to get a heartbeat or do a sonogram at my first appt. when i was 6 weeks, said it would freak me out that she probably wouldn't be able to find a heartbeat.
