Did anyones husband stay with them overnight
after delivery? And if so what hospital and was it hard to get them to allow it?
I know I hate hate hate being alone at the hospital and am going to have a hard time with this, at least the first night.
Dh actually also said I wish I could stay with you the night you deliver.
I know my friend was at southside, had to fight the nurses, but her husband stayed, shes petrified of being alone...
But I dont want to fight them over it??

Re: Did anyones husband stay with them overnight
Mine did not. The hospital didn't allow it. Trust me when I say you will need as much rest as possible as well as your DH so the night/s alone are not that bad. My DH was at the hospital from 10AM-10PM so by the time he left I was exhausted and welcomed the rest.
Don't worry- you will be ok.

Re: Did anyones husband stay with them overnight
My husband worked at the hospital and even he didn't stay over. It's awkward if you have a roommate - it infringes on their privacy. Usually they have pretty good hours for spouses... which you can extend unofficially. I understand your concern - I was in the hospital 2 nights before my water broke and I cried! You'll get through it either way!

My DH was allowed to (not a private room, although no roommate the first night) at NSUH in Manhasset.

Re: Did anyones husband stay with them overnight
My DH was not allowed to. He was able to come from 8 am - 10 pm, which I thought was great. When he went home I watched some TV and then pretty much fell alseep because I was so tired.

Re: Did anyones husband stay with them overnight
No at LIJ they are not allowed. When I had Patrick my roomates husband stayed WAY past visiting hours & was back before 7am. I thought it was beyond rude. No matter how quiet you think your being, your not!

Re: Did anyones husband stay with them overnight
Donna - I think under the circumstances this is a great idea as long as you have a private room.
DH didn't stay over (Huntington Hospital) but I'm not sure if it was rule. It was something I didn't consider at the time.

Re: Did anyones husband stay with them overnight
In Winthrop, the husband can stay if you are in a private room.
I couldn't WAIT until mine went home. You are going to need ALL the rest you can get. And some alone time is nice too.
He can come back early the next morning and you can spend the day together.

Re: Did anyones husband stay with them overnight
Honostly you will be ok, the baby comes in for feedings and its your bonding time and there are people coming in all the time anyway. I did enjoy my rest too. I couldnt wait for my DH to come back up though to see DD...

Re: Did anyones husband stay with them overnight
The were not allowed at Winthrop.. They had to leave at 10pm. They take the baby from you at 11pm and then they let you sleep. I was never so tired in all my life. Then they bring the baby to you for night feedings and bring the baby back to you at 8 or 9AM. I took a shower, ate breakfast and then my DH came back at 10Am. I missed him!
I had a private room too and didn't even think of asking him to stay. If we have another baby he will have to go home to my son.

Re: Did anyones husband stay with them overnight
Not only did my husband stayed so did my parents. I gave birth at John Dempsey Hospital (University of Connecticut Health Center). I gave birth at 11pm so my parents coudn't go back home to Queens. The hospital has a room that any family members can stay. I had a private room so my husband stayed with me.

Re: Did anyones husband stay with them overnight
My husband didn't. I delivered at South Nassau in Oceanside. It was 1:15am, and I was so drugged I wouldn't have noticed if he did or did not. He came back early in the am, though.

Re: Did anyones husband stay with them overnight
My Dh could have if he wanted to. He slept there when i was in active labor but went home to be with the dog and came back at the crack of dawn and spent the whole day with me. I can understand not wanting to be alone. You will be so exhausted it really won't bother you all that much

Re: Did anyones husband stay with them overnight
Honestly, before having the baby, I was petrified of staying alone. I had NEVER been in a hospital before and I hate being alone anyway. I cried about this. But when the time came, I just wanted to sleep and nothing bothered me. All I cared about was getting my pain meds (c section) and getting some sleep. I hadnt slept for almost 48 hours straight so it didnt bother me. I felt nice and safe with all the nurses there..he came back early in the morning. I delivered at the old Booth Memorial in Queens.

Re: Did anyones husband stay with them overnight
Since I labored overnight, my husband stayed...but he had to sleep on the floor! Poor guy... they didn't even offer a cot or anything. At Winthrop you labor in a private room so that's the only reason why I would have even considered him staying.
The next night (yeah, still in labor) he went home to sleep for a few hours and my mom stayed with me in the the delivery room. They took the night in shifts.
After the baby was born he did not stay. I didn't pay the extra $500 (cash only) for the private room so it would have been really cramped and weird with a roommate. Plus I was very thankful for the time to rest. I did miss him, but Donna, if you have a c/s, you'll be so drugged up the first couple of nights you won't even care about being alone. You'll be feeling no pain! Even if you don't have a c/s or drugs, you'll be sooo exhausted you'll pass right out.

My friend just had a baby here and her DH stayed all 4 nights (she had a c-section) even when she had a roomate.

Re: Did anyones husband stay with them overnight
I know that in ST charles it was an option- you had to pay 200$ xtra and there was only one room- first come first serve. I too hate hospitals but I didnt want to pay 200$ for Dh to sleep on a chair- I needed him to get some rest cause I knew we were in for some sleepless nights. After I delivered I was soooo tired that I didnt really mind being alone. The second night I got a little lonely but it went fast.

Re: Did anyones husband stay with them overnight
He was allowed to stay over my entire stay (private room), but he did not.
I couldn't see the advantage to doing that when he could be sleeping at home and be back in the morning well rested. (and me too!)

Re: Did anyones husband stay with them overnight
My room has an extra bed for DH. He did not know that, when I told him he could spend the night, he said great, I look forward to getting cozy with you in a twin size bed without the belly..
All I could do was laugh. The thought of him thinking we would be sharing a bed.. I can't imagine that he would not want to run home, get some sleep and shower.
