Re: Did anyones husband stay with them overnight

I delivered at White Plains Hospital and I was admitted the night before my induction. They were nice enough enough to put me in a pre-labor room that was a double so DH had his own bed and staed over. We paid to have a suite and there was a pull-out chair that dH could have used, but I told him he could sleep at home. I know that all of the private rooms have a bed/bench in the rooms for dads.

My labor began at 11pm on a Tues so DH did stay that entire night. He slept in a chair in L&D. But after the baby was born at 4:55pm Wed he did not stay that night. He had been up for almost a day and a half and was totally exhausted. I didnt care, i was so tired!!

ETA: i delivered at mercy medical center

Re: Did anyones husband stay with them overnight

DH spent the 1st night with me- but got up at 5am and asked if I minded he went home, since he was so uncomfortable- and by then I didnt care- he went home at night for the rest of my stay...

No one at the hospital never said anything one way or another about it...

No because I didn't want him to. I wanted him to get some sleep and I wanted to get some sleep too. I knew the nurses were there to help me so I wasn't scared. I delivered at LIJ and was told husbands are allowed to stay over only in private rooms but it is strongly discouraged due to privacy reasons.

I was in Huntington and they did not allow it. But DH stayed after visiting hours and was with me. Then he left so they could bring the babies out to me. At that point I was so tired I was OK with him going and it gave me time to be alone with Katie which I loved.

Re: Did anyones husband stay with them overnight

My DH stayed with me in the recovery room over night, I felt so bad cause he had to sleep on this little chair, but the nurses gave him blankets and pillows. I wanted him to stay with me in my visiting room, but him and I needed a good nights sleep so he went home. Plus I was there for 4 days (c-section) so there was no way he was going to stay over evey night--lol

I'm not in NY but my DH stayed with me the entire time. I packed a separate bag for him. It was me, him and the baby in our room the entire time and I wouldn't have it any other way.
I hope you find a hospital you are comfortable with.

Re: Did anyones husband stay with them overnight

I delivered in Philadelphia, and at my hospital they had a couch that pulls out into a bed and each room is private, so DH stayed the entire time. I kept Alex in the room with me and only let her go for testing, so I could establish a very good breastfeeding relationship from the start, and because I had a c-section, I really needed DH's help in the hospital... edited to say, like Monkeybride, I knew he would stay with me so I packed a separate hospital bag for him, and he ended up staying with me for 4 days. I think he went home a few times to get some things for me, but that was about it!

no, thankfully! Chat Icon I probably would have had to listen to him complain about being uncomfortable sleeping!

I can relate to that possibly happening! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I LOVED being alone, I didnt even think to ask him to stay, I had a cool roommate, I chit chat with all the nurses. had my quiet time to myself. there was absolutely no reason for him to stay Chat Icon (besides the 2 toddlers climbing the walls at home Chat Icon)

Re: Did anyones husband stay with them overnight

no. I delivered at 1 am and it had been a LONG day for everyone so DH and my mom went home to sleep. I had a double room with a constant roommate.

My roommate wanted her DH to stay over and it ****** me off because IMO that should only be allowed if you're in a single private room. Both women are uncomfortable, BLEEDING, have bathroom issues, etc and should not have to go through that with a strange man in the room. JMO.

I remember the roommate asked the nurse if it was okay and THEN asked meChat Icon I voiced my concerns and then the woman found her own room and moved.

Re: Did anyones husband stay with them overnight

I had a private room and my husband stayed the first night. They didn't give us any trouble at all, in fact, there was already a cot in the room! The second night he did not stay and it was tough. I really needed his help taking care of the baby in the middle of the night- I had a c-section and had a very tough time handling the baby for feedings by myself & my night nurse was not helpful at all. So the third night he stayed again with me to help. However, he was so exhausted that he slept through the feedings. Figures! I was not at an LI hospital.

Re: Did anyones husband stay with them overnight

im surprised that so many moms had hte baby overnite. We were told even if we went to the bathroom, to take the baby with us. so I cant imagine sleeping and the baby being "unsupervised" so to speak.
I felt much better with him being in the nursery, and with me when I was awake and ready to tend to him.
