If so, under what circumstances was it allowed?

My dr said he would prefer to schedule my c section for 37 w (better for health of the mother) but the hospital (or insurance?) has restrictions against scheduling anything before 38 w.

I always wanted to make it to 38 w, but now that I'm 36 w, I feel like I just can't take it. I have no idea how I'm going to make it another 2 wks. I've been hanging on by a very thin thread for weeks & weeks already.

I just emailed him to see if there are any other exceptions (besides pre-eclampsia) that would allow an earlier date closer to 37 w.

I know in the end it's worth it & a better problem to have than a really early birth, but I'm just not in a good place mentally right now.

Also, I'm sorry, I owe a bunch of fm's back to some of you kind ladies....but haven't felt up to it.

Chat Icon So sorry the end has been so rough for you!!
I don't have any experience with scheduling the c-section for myself yet, but I think it might be a NYS rule that 38 weeks is the earliest for twins- I know that's what the doctor told my sister when she wanted to be scheduled 11 days prior to due date and he said earliest allowed would be 10 days prior to due date (she was just having one baby) due to NYS law.
Hopefully your MD will email you back wil some good news though!
Hang in there mama! Chat Icon

Oh wow..I did not know these rules. It was my Dr. that said he would schedule me at 37 weeks. However, it was due to my previous history. my first birth went very badly, and no one wants any surprises this time..they think 37wks will be the safest time to do it. Not sure if that clears through insurance though? Something I will have to ask when the time comes.

I imagine reasons they would allow you to have the C early is pe-E or growth restriction of one of the babies.

I am so sorry you are having such a difficult time with the pregnancy, my heart goes out to you....delivery is so close now..you have done a great job keeping them in there, and letting them grow.

I had one scheduled for 35 weeks due to possible IUGR (intrauterine growth restriction).

I had complications my entire pregnancy (subchorionic hematoma, possible amniotic band, pre-term labor, had cerclage, hospitalization, strict bedrest from 23 weeks on)

At 34w3d, I went for my last appointment with my high-risk specialist and she thoguht the babies weren't growing appropriately and that my fluid might be starting to be a bit low. My ob/gyn made the call to schedule my c-section for 35 weeks exactly.

I ended up having the babies the very next day at 34w4d. SURPRISE!

I know you probably feel DONE DONE DONE, but my babies even at 34w4d and 5 lbs 2 ounces and 5 lbs 6 ounces spent 2/14-3/1 in NICU (son) and 2/14-3/10 in NICU (daughter). So hang in there and try to keep those little ones cooking as long as possible!!!

Mine was scheduled for 37 weeks. They were 6.13 and 5.14lbs. I had to have one with my first and that was also scheduled for 37 weeks.

I had a vaginal delivery, but my doctor was scheduling a c section for 38 weeks. She said they usually schedule at 37 weeks but was giving me some extra time hoping both boys would be head down.

Suzanne & Gina & SweetSatj- was/is there a medical reason why it would be approved for 37 wks?
What hospital?

I had my girls at 36 weeks due to Pre-eclampsia but I was oringinally scheduled for 38 weeks. They told me they could not schedule me before 38 weeks. I had the babies at Stony Brook Hospital.

LIJ. She didn't give me any reason except that this is what's done with twins. Plus when you reach 35 weeks to hear it could be over soon is a relief (even though i did not want a section) so i didn't press her for a reason and just assumed it was normal. I was pretty pissed when she told me about scheduling it, because I assumed you went the full 40 weeks.

Actually, 38 weeks for me would be Thanksgiving Day, 11/22. They were like, "hahahahaha NO"

For the geekiest reason PLUS my Dr. is available, I really want 11/21

It took over a week for them to get special permission and approval b/c it is 37W6D. Chat Icon

I'm posting an update because I can't believe it. I just got a call that they WON'T make the exception now to schedule the C for 11/21 because it's 37W 6D.

It's booked for 11/26. I am shocked!

This happened to a friend of mine but with a single pregnancy. She went to the hospital though and they told her sorry come back tomorrow! Her doctor came and was fighting with the hospital but they said no. THey are so afraid of lawsuits.

I've never heard this. My c-section was scheduled and done at 37 weeks 5 days at LIJ and I had no complications during my pregnancy
