Did my water break???
How do you know when your water breaks? Was shopping this morning and felt a small gush that went through to my pants.....nothing crazy just a circle around my pants. Came home, relaxed and nothing crazy as far as dampness of feeling drips. Called dr. and they are sending me to l&d. I hate to complain but I was there last week when contractions were 4 minutes apart but they went away and I got sent home. Almost 38 weeks and hate to do this again if they are just going to send me home! I wish there was a test they could do in the dr. office to see if it is amniotic fluid or not!! How do you know if it's your water or just 38 week grossness???

Definitely could be. What you described sounds like exactly how I felt when my water broke. My dr actually did test the fluid with litmus paper to see whether or not that's what it was. Good luck!

Put it this way, if your water did break, but you do not go into active labor, it could endanger the baby. Isn't it better to go and be safe?

That's how mine started. I started contracting a few hours later and with each contraction more fluid came out.

I have no issue with being better safe than sorry however I don't understand why they can't test at my dr.'s office.

it might be! my water never broke so I'm not too sure. But it sounds like you'd have to go to L&D. Maybe they want you to go there so that you're already at the hospital IF it is amniotic fluid rather than spend the time at t he dr. office and then be sent to the hospital? The morning I went into labor I called my dr office regarding cramping/contractions they sent me right to L&D; i really wanted to just go to the dr office to get checked out I was only 37 weeks. But good thing I went b/c DS was born 6 hours later!

I have no issue with being better safe than sorry however I don't understand why they can't test at my dr.'s office.
They're probably booked with appointments; and if was you water breaking, it would be an extra trip you didn't need to take.
