Did you pick your DC's name because

you liked it or does it actually have some meaning i.e. named after a family member or something/someone in particular.

DD is Ella, my mom is ellen and DH's mom is maryellen and i'm laura ellen and then her middle name is my MIL's maiden name.

The next two will be named either after family members or book/song.

Both of my girls 1st and middle names are namesakes.

Reese is my daughters first name, love it and we like Reese Whitherspoon too.
I like first name and last name to have same first letters....
Her middle name is Eileen after my boyfriends Aunt whom he is very close too.

We just liked them, both her first name & her middle name.

His first name was the only one we could agree on and then the middle name is after my Dad.

Simply becauase it was the only boy's name DH and I both liked. Supposedly his middle name is from DH's family, but no one I've ever met has that name

If I have another boy I may use my dad's name. If I have a girl I want to use my grandmother's name as a middle name.

DDs' middle names are after our maternal grandmothers.

We chose Taylor because it meant something to the both of us....



When my husband and i were going to the Ft. Lauderdale Airport (coming back from our Honeymoon) he was driving and I had the directions. I kept telling him to make a turn onto Taylor road. He kept missing it.... we drove around and circles--him thinking he knew where to turn....me reading the directions....Make a left onto Taylor road....When we finally got into the airport and boarded the plane we both laughed that if we ever had a daughter we should name her Taylor...and we did!

We had the same requirements for both DC:

No family member had the name (distant cousins that we didn't know were OK, though)
Something that everyone knew, but not everyone had
Nothing "trendy"
A name that wasn't easy to make fun of by 5th graders
Names that we were OK with the common nicknames for.
The name should sound good for a baby, as well as a President or CEO of a company.

David and Rachel have been around for thousands of years, so they aren't "trendy". Everyone knows how to spell them (Rachel may get spelled Rachael on occasion....). We often call them Dave and Rach.

We focused more on the practical aspects of the name.

ETA: DS's middle name is my first name, and DD's middle name is a name that DW has liked for years, even though it doesn't totally follow all of our "rules"....

DD#1 is Katherine Emer--we just liked those names.

DD#2 is Abigail Bridget and she is named after Abigail Adams and my grandmother.

DS is Ryan Patrick. We loved the name Ryan, and Patrick is DH's middle name.

DD is Erin Dorothy. We wanted to stay with irish names, and loved Erin. Dorothy is my middle name, my mom's middle name, and my Nana's and great-grandmother's name- so its a tradition.

We chose Lucas because....


When we were on our honeymoon in Cabo San Lucas we decided that after a year we would TTC. It was weird because it was a random conversation (totally not planned) that wound up going all the way through dinner. Then one year later went to St. Lucia and tried. I remember sitting on the patio of the villa and joked that we should name the baby Lucas if it was a boy...and we both just stopped in mid-conversation and agreed. So when we found out it was a boy...we knew it would be Lucas.

Matteo is a name I absolutely love but no special meaning behind it. Just love the way the name goes together...Lucas Matteo


ETA: There was one criteria...the first name had to easily translate to Italian (Luca) and the middle name had to be Italian.

We knew we wanted DD's middle name to be MIL's name (she passed away just before I met DH) - Miriam. We were having a tough time coming up with/agreeing on a first name that sounded good with Miriam. We both loved the way Lily Miriam sounded.

Being Italian and from a very Italian traditional family, DS was named after my FIL

For DD, we picked a name that I LOVE and it's different

We picked Julia because we love the nickname Jules.

We picked Todd Michael because its my DH's name and I love it, and DH wanted a Jr.

My DD is McKenna Rose
McKenna is a name we both liked and Rose is after my mom

My DS is Braeden Nicholas. My husband picked Braeden and Nicholas is after my sister, Nicole

My DD is Rebecca Angelina. We just liked Rebecca and Angelina is for my late maternal grandmother. Rebecca Ann was also in consideration because it flowed better than Angelina, but I wanted something a little more unique.

We didnt use any family names. We both knew the name Ainsley and had always liked it. I bought a big book of baby names and when I read it out loud we both said that we loved it. Catherine became her middle name because I liked how it sounded with her first and last name.

If we had had a boy then we were possibly going to have Shaw as a middle name- after one of my favorite playwrights - GB Shaw.

DS is Andrew Paul. Was to be Andrew James which are the middle names of my brothers. DH wanted Paul (his first name) to be the middle name -- he decided late and I had no issues.

DD is Hannah Lyn. My mom's name is Carolyn, so the middle name is a tribute to her.

I picked Jared because of my dh's cousin's friend. His name was Jarrett. I loved the name but wasn't crazy about the spelling. So I changed it around a bit and came up with Jared.

I thought it sounded manly...lol...
and not many people at all have that name.

DS first & middle names are both family names--we had his name picked out for years!!
