Re: did you report your pregnancy to your insurance company
I did just to be safe. I did not have to with my old insurance, but with DHs union insurance I had to tell them by 12 weeks.

Re: did you report your pregnancy to your insurance company
My doctor told me to call them just to see if they had any programs available. Im sure they figured it out when they started getting billed for prenatal care.

Re: did you report your pregnancy to your insurance company
I didn't realize this was something that should be done.
I know my insurance figured it out since I was undergoing infertility treatments and my IF benefits stopped once I got pregnant. I believe actually my RE's office notified them of my pregnancy.

I called yesterday to confirm that I could switch doctors and get the FULL explanation. They knew I was pg from the monthly ob/gyn bills, sono bills, and bloodwork

Re: did you report your pregnancy to your insurance company
I have Oxford and notified them. Right now even though I notified them that DS was born within 24 hours of his birth, he still technically has not been added to my insurance which I found out when I took him to his first pediatrics appt. I ended up having to pay out of pocket at the visit. I called Oxford and they told me they would mail me some claim forms and I would just need to submit the receipts to be reimbursed, however, for him to totally be added to my insurance, I have to fill out a form with my employer, which just arrived in the mail yesterday.
Just want you to be aware so you have no "surprises".

Re: did you report your pregnancy to your insurance company
I actually finally just called this morning (15 weeks) because in my initial paperwork from dr. it said that I should call to inform my insurance company (United Healthcare) and get a precertification number. They do not do precertification numbers. Of course they don't! I was transfered 3 times with not much more info than I got off the website. But better to be safe than turned away in full on labor!

You should.....i think you'll need to be pre-certified before your delivery.

Re: did you report your pregnancy to your insurance company
At my first appointment, the nurse practitioner told me to call my insurance company (Aetna) and let them know, which I did, and they said that it wasn't neccessary. I do need to let them know when the baby is born.

Re: did you report your pregnancy to your insurance company
Nope. I don't think it is necessary for most insurance companies. Your OB essentially notifies them. It never even occurred to me and I had no problems with DD's pregnancy and insurance.

Re: did you report your pregnancy to your insurance company
I have empire united health care and we had to notify them. They will also send a letter to you and your OB authorizing hospitalization around your expected due date. HOpe that helps.

Re: did you report your pregnancy to your insurance company
I didn't. I guess either my midwife notified them or they figured it out when they started getting billed for pre-natal visits because I got a letter in the mail about a month ago saying that I have been approved for my vaginal delivery at SBU hospital.
