My insurance co called me after my first sonogram and blood work to see if I wanted to sign up for the free nurse help center thingy.

I did. I have GHI and the back of the card actually said that you have to report it to them.

I have Oxford and notified them. Right now even though I notified them that DS was born within 24 hours of his birth, he still technically has not been added to my insurance which I found out when I took him to his first pediatrics appt. I ended up having to pay out of pocket at the visit. I called Oxford and they told me they would mail me some claim forms and I would just need to submit the receipts to be reimbursed, however, for him to totally be added to my insurance, I have to fill out a form with my employer, which just arrived in the mail yesterday.
Just want you to be aware so you have no "surprises".

Newborns ARE covered under your insurance card for 30 days as long as they are eventually being added to the policy(NYS law). I'm surprised your ped. made you pay out of pocket. They should not have.
I had Oxford and they did try to pull some fast ones that I had to appeal several times, so I would just make sure what (if anything) you are being billed for matches what your policy says you are responsible for.

Re: did you report your pregnancy to your insurance company
Thanks Summer! I always anticipate some kind of BS with insurance companies so I will definitely heed your warning.

I got a letter congratulating me on my pregnancy...it came after my 1st Ob visit. I guess my doctor did that!
This was for me as well. I also got my hospitalization admission number from the hospital that I'm planning to have the baby. So when I go to the hospital no need to take care of any paperwork. All has been taken care of already. And my doctor's office provided all of that as well.
