Did you see Amanda Peet and her new campaign for vaccination?
I saw on the news that the Board of Pediatric and a lot of Dr were behind a campaign to promote vaccination.
Amanda Peet is the spokeperson for the campaign.
It's in response to the Jenny McCarthy campaign against vaccination.

She is disgusting.
I am all for vaccinating, but she called parents who dont vaccinate their children "parasites" and thats insane and immature.
Parents have fears and as a fellow parent I try to educate not berate others on their fears.

She said that??? I know nothing about this campaign.... Crazy!
Why did they need her as a spokesperson?

I did not hear it in the commercial. I am not aware of what she said outside of that. It was on the news yesterday.

I cannot find the article exactly...Heres an article about that article.
I saw them discussing it on the View I think it was. And There has been a big backlash on the web about it. She apologized of course.
Im FOR her campaign, but think she made a huge mistake not editing herself.

Re: Did you see Amanda Peet and her new campaign for vaccination?
she did apologize (weakly ) for her comment on parasites but she then stood by everything she says
i have my own opinions about vaccines and i'm totally on Jenny Mccarthys side of thinking but i keep it to myself.
I just want to know how Amanda Peet is sooooo sure of her theory when scientists aren't even that sure. I mean should we assume that she is somehow smarter than everyone put together that has been trying to disprove this vaccine theory and can't?

Re: Did you see Amanda Peet and her new campaign for vaccination?
In the original article she really just came out and said those parents are parasites...this is her response from the mag's response
amanda peet's response Dear Concerned Parents and Friends, I wanted to address my comment in Cookie magazine that "parents who don't vaccinate their children are parasites." I believe in my heart that my use of the word "parasites" was mean and divisive; I completely understand why it offended some parents, and in particular, parents of children with autism who feel that vaccines caused their illness. For this I am truly sorry. Since my mom has Parkinson's Disease, I know what it feels like to want a concrete cause, and a concrete cure, as soon as possible. However, I still believe that the decision not to vaccinate our children bodes for a dangerous future. Vast reductions in immunization will lead to a resurgence of deadly viruses. This is as indisputable as global warming. I know a lot of parents who secretly use as a justification, "Well, enough other people are vaccinating, so therefore, we don't have to." In this era of cynicism, it's hard to believe that any corporation, medical or otherwise, has our best interests at heart. But it's irresponsible to suggest that virtually the entire medical community, and the CDC, and the American Academy of Pediatrics are behind a massive cover-up about vaccine safety. Fourteen studies have been conducted (both here in the US and abroad), and these tests are reproducible; no matter where they are administered, or who is funding them, the conclusion is the same: there is no association between autism and vaccines. How many more studies do we need to conduct on vaccines, before we start re-channeling our efforts and money towards research on autism? The real question is why the media and journalists are still presenting vaccine safety as a controversy. There are a few fringe medical groups and parent advocacy groups who claim that vaccines cause autism, or that they have too many "toxins," or "viral challenges" for our tiny babies' bodies to handle. In fact, although there are many more vaccine doses given today, the entire vaccine schedule contains far fewer antigens—components of viruses or bacteria—than vaccines of the past. (In other words, it's more shots, but less vaccine.) Why doesn't anyone talk about this? There are still fringe scientists who claim that HIV is a government conspiracy, but these people do not get a lot of media coverage, as it's accepted that this theory has no medical/biological plausibility. My concern is for our children and their futures. In the fifties, vaccines were recognized as life-saving. My mom had polio and was quarantined when she was 6 years old. It's so hard to appreciate vaccines now that so few children are dying from preventable diseases today, but that could all change if we're not vigilant. There are currently multiple measles outbreaks in the United States. Hopefully children do not have to die before people start to realize the cost of withholding vaccines. My best wishes to you and your families, Amanda (and Frankie)

Honestly, I think Jenny AND Amanda should stick to what they do best - making horrible movies. Who the hell gave either of them medical degrees?

Totally, totally agree!!
When I saw Amanda Peet on Good Morning America that was one of the points she made. She said that unfortunately in our society people believe as the word of god anything that comes out of celebrities mouths, and she felt it was time to counter the media who normally show the "Jenny McCarthy" side (even though she admits in her book that she saw signs in her son BEFORE he had any vaccines, but the media usually leaves that part out).
She blamed the media quite a bit for the upswing in people choosing not to vaccinate.

I agree 100% also. I would never base my decision on whether or not to vaccinate my DC on a "celebrity's opinion." However, I guess all of this publicity does raise awareness to both sides of the issue.

Re: Did you see Amanda Peet and her new campaign for vaccination?
I think she has a point actually.
People see Jenny McCarthy campaigning....she is a celebrity and one whom has a child with autism. Jenny believe vaccines played a role in his autism. It creates chaos...I mean, we all have to admit...celebrities have power and a strong voice and some of us take what they say as gold.
It shouldn't be like that. Jenny has every right to campaign and raise awareness but unfortunately some people only hear "vaccine=autism". And you know what? NOT vaccinating is way more dangerous!! This is coming from a mom with a child who doesn't know WHAT caused his sensory disorder. I don't feel its vaccines, I feel it's a neurological thing present since birth...but that is another story.
People need to read up on medical literature, talk to their doctors and stop listening to celebrities!

ITA!
I can not believe she would say something like that...that is just AWEFUL.
EVERY parent has their own set of beliefs and we just need to learn to repsect that!

seriously.
it's scary to me that some people out there might actually make their choices based on what either of these women have to say, rather than by doing their own research and by speaking with their providers.

I agree 100%....what Jenny said caused unnecessary chaos, and I am glad that someone else spoke out from the "other side" of the debate. However, what she said (the parasite comment) was uncalled for.

I honestly think that every parent, regardless of "status" needs to educate themselves and make the right choices for their child with their Dr.
