Did you test positive for Strep B while pregnant?

SIL just tested positive for it and is freaking out. Anyone have experience with this? They told her she would be on antibiotic during labor/delivery, but she is still scared

I didn't but it is VERY, very common.

I did...they acted like it was pretty common.

I had a c-section so wasn't on antibiotics

I did. It was no big deal at all.
When I went into labor the dr. asked if I was positive-all they do is give you an IV antibiotic while you are in labor. You already have the IV so its nothing extra.
Tell her not to worry at all!!!

I didn't but I don't think it's a big deal, I believe it's pretty common

I did, it was absolutely no big deal... she just has to make sure she tells the L&D nurses when she checks into the hospital. They just put me on antibiotics during my induction which turned c/s anyway. Really, tell your SIL this is totally not something to get worked up about.

I had it and it was no big deal. A large percentage of women have it. They make sure you get to the hospital at least 4 hours (I think) before you give birth so you can get 2 doses of the antibiotic. I think they also said DS and I might need to stay in the hospital for an extra day than normal to make sure he didn't get it, but we didn't need to. Even without the antibiotics there is a very very small chance that the baby would get infected when going through the birth canal. Tell her not to stress about it, but to remind everyone she sees at the hospital that she tested positive.

yup and not a big deal at all. just hooked up to an IV during labor and thats it. nothing to get too worked up about.

Yes, I did. It was no big deal AT ALL. I was induced and they gave me the IV antibiotic before they induced me. I ended up with a c-section so it really was a non-issue after all.

I did with #1 and #3 with #1 I got the antibiotics and with #3 I didnt make it in time ( I had her 1/2 hr after arriving) But she was totally fine we just stayed in the hospital an extra day

I did the 1st time, not the 2nd. It's totally common. They just give you IV antibiotics when you're in labor. Nothing to freak out about.

It's very common. I did. If I was giving birth vaginally I would have had to be given an antibiotic before giving birth. It was a moot point since I had a c/s

Thanks for all of your responses....I relayed them to her....she was so impressed with the speed of the responses that she might join the boards now....even though she is a jersey girl

i did, it wasnt a big deal, once they know that you are they set u up with the antibiotics when you first get in..hth

I did and it was really no big deal. I had the IV antibiotic and DD was fine.

i didnt with my first and did with my second. its really no big deal, i got antibiodics when i got to the hospital, that was it.

I did with my first child but not with my second. It wasn't a big deal at all - I had to get IV antibiotics before and after labor/delivery. I didn't notice or feel any differently and my dr's office wasnt concerned. I think you just have to make sure to get to the hospital early enough to start the antibiotics before the delivery.

I did also and as everyone already mentioned no big deal. I test positive with my 2nd and 3rd had to be given the antibiotics however with my 3rd I had a c-sec. Both babies were fine and the dr said it's very common. Tell her not to worry

I did, and we didn't know it until after my unexpected csection delivery. But I was given antibiotics during labor and baby and I were both fine. It's very common and easily treated.

I had a csection but still got the abs b/c I went in with a fever and they though I might have broken my water, but weren't sure when, so they treated me. Also in my case, baby even got some IV abs to be safe since they weren't sure what was causing my fever until the amniotic and placental cultures came back. Turns out there was no infection there, but my case isn't even the norm, most times baby never needs to be treated.

Tell your sil to join for sure!!!
