Yup. Our school has 2 half days on December 16 and 17th just so the teacher can do conferences

eta: I believe we are in the same district

Sachem right?

She asked me when I was due
( I'm pregnant) and she said if I want we can schedule something after the holidays Chat Icon

Yes Sachem. Our conferences are scheduled for those 2 afternoons and the school calendar clearly calls them teacher conference days

Another Kindergarten Sachem mom here; we are also have conferences on those 2 half days.

We signed up for our appointment at "Meet the Teacher" night..

We do parent teacher consultations, we come in during the day, meet with the teacher and spend an hour in the classroom.

My hour was spent passing the baby around to all the little girls who wanted to "hold" her.

This is so wierd to me that they all do things so differenly Chat Icon

I was speaking to one of the other K moms at the bus stop a few weeks back ( different teacher) and she said that her DD's teacher sent home a sheet back in October with 2 boxes - one for conference needed and one for not needed (or something to that affect) ...her DD's said not needed, but that she could request one if she wanted to and being this is DD #2 for her, she is of the mind set of "if its not broke..." so she skipped it...

Oh well, guess I'm going to just roll with it Chat Icon

I am a Kindergarten teacher and my district requires us to meet with every child's parents twice-once in November and Once in February. We then have two half days scheduled later in the year to meet with parents of children that are having difficulties. All of the other grades in my district have to meet with all parents once, and then have 3 half days throughout the year to meet with parents on an as needed basis.

My son has parent-teacher conferences for his DAYCARE. I thought it was a little silly at first, but it was actually a very rewarding experience to sit down with his teacher and talk about his behavior/milestones etc.

In my opinion you deserve to have at least once conference-even if there are no issues you shouldn't feel bad having some sit down time to discuss your child and the progress they are making in Kindergarten. It is a year of tremendous growth.

My DS was in pre-k and even she did 1 conference with us ( needed or not) I appreciated being in the loop of what was happening in school...

Re: Did your school do parent/teacher conferences in kindergarten ?

Stacey, it sounds like the teacher is trying to get out of it b/c he's doing well (making her life easier Chat Icon ). In our school even Nursery meets w/ every parent 1st trimester (in 2 wks) & then in March we request to see the parent (or the parent can request to see us, but its not mandatory).

I would say you felt the need to discuss his progress.

Or speak w/ some of his friends' parents & see what she said to them.

That doesn't sound right Stacey.

In my school, where I teach, they start in pre-k. My son is in preschool and we had ptc since he was three. I fond it strange that a parent would not want to have a conference.

Well, I spoke to one of the other moms at DS's bus-stop this morning ( same mom as last time, her DD has a different teacher) and she said aside from a few weeks ago where her DD's teacher checked off on a take home sheet that a PTC wasn't neccessary at that time - she has heard nothing else !

She didn't even know there were half days scheduled for conferences Dec 16 & 17th , so apparently ( unless her DD's teacher is waiting till the last minute) , hers doesnt have one either Chat Icon
