Dining Sets in your FDR..UPDATED WITH PICS... here is my quandry
I have eyed this set forever: I would get the triple-arch china cabinet thing with it.
However, I do see what a lot of you are saying, as far as china cabinets and hutches being bulky and kind of outdated. So, there is this that I like too (and also A LOT cheaper)
----------------------------------- Do you have a china cabinet/hutch/buffet?
or do you just have a table?
I love this one table but it doesn't appear that there is a matching china cabinet with it....I always pictured myself with a huge china cabinet or hutch.....are these "out" ??

Re: Dining Sets in your FDR..
I have a buffet/sideboard in my dining room. I don't like china cabinets/hutches and I feel they take up so much room and are "bulky looking". And I don't like the look of "showing" things like china and trinkets that you would normally do with a china cabinet. They just seem old fashion and outdated to me.

Re: Dining Sets in your FDR..
IMO china cabinets are a little outdated... and I think i've even seen them referred to as "tacky" here on LIF! But I do have one, because I took my late mother's dining room set. Thats more important to me than whats in style.
Before we took her set I had a nice modern set from fortunoff with a low buffet cabinet. I am actually selling that one now. Loved it!

Re: Dining Sets in your FDR..
I have a table, china cabinet, and sideboard/buffet. But my dining room is big enough for all 3, and I like to display my formal china and crystal in the china cabinet. I use the sideboard to store table linens, larger serving platters, etc.

Re: Dining Sets in your FDR..
I think china cabinets are a bit outdated as well, when you think of them in the traditional sense. There are alternatives, if you need the storage. I do like a large buffet if it's the right style....
In my DR, I don't have it set up as "formal", it's just the dining room. I have my table and a console table with two drawers. The table was my dad's and used to be in his guest room--it matched my table very well and looks like it was meant to be there.

Re: Dining Sets in your FDR..
I have a china cabinet and I hate it now..while I have a ton of crystal and china I hate my set, it was the first furniture purchase we bought together as a married couple and now with the move and the reno I feel like it's sooooo dated...I feel like if I were to get one now it would be a side table/server/buffet with no china cabinet

Re: Dining Sets in your FDR..
I acutally bought my set more for the china closet than the table. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the china closet and just Love the table and really only like the chairs.
I always wanted one and love being able to display the thousands of dollars worth of china my parents and ILs bought us!!!

Re: Dining Sets in your FDR..
I have a table and buffet. I have service for 12 and have a really tough time fitting it in my buffet. So right now we have some boxes in the corner that will eventually get put in cabinets in our mudroom.

Re: Dining Sets in your FDR..
We have a table and large buffet/server (9') that holds all of our china & crystal. I'm on the hunt for a pair of commodes/chests (for linens and the like) and a possibly an antique vitrine.

Re: Dining Sets in your FDR..
I have the table, buffet, and china cabinet. It does take up a lot of room but it was my grandmothers set and as much as I would like something more modern I will never get rid of it

Re: Dining Sets in your FDR..
I have built ins that I display my china in and then just a table and side board. I wouldn't get a china cabinet for the dust factor. What a pain in the butt to clean!!!

Re: Dining Sets in your FDR..
I have a table and a buffet. I did not register for China and did not want/need a China cabinet. They are a set and match, but I think if I were to do it again, I would not get a complete set but choose pieces I like that compliment one another. I'm really not a matchy matchy kind of of person.

Re: Dining Sets in your FDR..UPDATED WITH PICS... here is my quandry
I like the second set you posted, its more inviting and not as bulky- I don't have either but plan on doing a buffet/sideboard, just bc a china cabinet would "take over" my dining room in my case. BUT I can see the need for a china cabinet if you have a china set and a buffet doesn't have the room to hold all it.

We have a table and a hutch. I do not like china cabinets but I do love the open feel of a hutch.
We also have an antique cabinet in our DR. Here is an older pic but to show you where it's located in relation to the hutch and table.

Re: Dining Sets in your FDR..UPDATED WITH PICS... here is my quandry
i love the triple arch!!! i am obsessed with that set. its a fdr so go all out!!!!! the triple arch is not your typlical china cab its more up-to-date then the ones we are all comparing them too. if you have the space, i say do it, in not, go with just a buffet since the height wont close in the space

I wasn't opposed to getting one, I just didn't find one that I liked. I think it really depends on the size of the buffet if all of your china would fit.

ready for the silly part? I DON'T EVEN OWN CHINA!
I just looooooove that Hooker Triple-Arch hutch/cabinet/whatever thingy.. this is just getting ridiculous. I still don't have a dining set. I can't commit - I have issues.
