Re: Dining Sets in your FDR..UPDATED WITH PICS... here is my quandry
I think both sets are nice, but the second one is definitely more casual. If you are going for a more "formal" dining room, I like the triple arch hutch.
I really don't think that china cabinets in general are dated or out of style. Like anything else, there are different styles of furniture. I think some china cabinets CAN look old-ladyish or old fashioned, but there are some very sleek and modern styles.
I also think that they can be functional storage pieces, and if you have a lot of formal china and crystal and want to display it, I think it serves a purpose.
I really think you can't go wrong with either -- it just depends on your personal needs and whether you want a more casual or more formal look in your dining area.

I like the second one too - but what about going with the first set and getting the wine cabinet with the double arch instead of the triple arch?

I thought of that, because the coloring would be super-off, I think.

ready for the silly part? I DON'T EVEN OWN CHINA!
I just looooooove that Hooker Triple-Arch hutch/cabinet/whatever thingy.. this is just getting ridiculous. I still don't have a dining set. I can't commit - I have issues.
you dont need china, you can display serving platters/bowls. holiday dish or two for the season. the second seems too casual for a fdr, also, im not a fan of the style

I don't have anything but a table because I don't have room - i don't necessarily think china cabinets are outdated I just think the style is a bit outdated. I love the second pic u posted - it's exactly what I would want if I had the space

Re: Dining Sets in your FDR..UPDATED WITH PICS... here is my quandry
i have a really old china cabinet (it's small, compared to things made nowadays) and dining table that was my grandmothers from the 1930s. would never part with it, and i display all of my crystal in it. and while it's dated in age, it's vintage looking and fits our style.

LOVE the first one, is that the one from raymour & flanigan?? i'm currently in the market and i was eyeing that one from R&F....love the second one too. I'm planning on getting a buffet, i feel the china cabinet will make my room look too small. I'm pretty sure that one comes with a bufet i thought i saw it in the store.

I have a china cabinet. It's a Thomasville set that I inherited from my parents. I think it's a classic look, but that's just my opinion.
I like having one, but if I had to buy a new DR I may or may not get a china caobinet.
Get what you like - who cares what others think! It's just a dining room

Re: Dining Sets in your FDR..UPDATED WITH PICS... here is my quandry
I personally like the furniture on the 2nd pic.
I think the "decor" makes furniture/style dated or outdated.
Plenty of people have "antiques" on designer shows and it looks amazing. So I think it's more about the "staging" than the actual furniture style.
The 1st look.... look at Pottery Barn Spring edition. It's very reminescent of it. Glass vases, etc....

I LOVE the first set...if China cabinets/hutches are out...where does everyone keep their fine china??? I have my china in my server in china protectors. It's a very roomy space so I easily fit 12 place settings (and more if need be). I never heard of china cabinets being dated but since getting a server, I like the look of it better.
To the op I like the second one better!!!

You should get what YOU love for YOUR home - If you have been eyeing the first set forever - GET IT. If you want the China Cabinet and have the space for it, GET IT .........
I don't think that particular set is formal or 'dated' at all .......You can easily dress that up or down based on how 'formal' of a look you want -

I think I'm kinda trying to talk myself out of it due to the price and need to justify why NOT to get it...because if I do, it has to stay with us forever...like, I may have to be buried in the china cabinet.

Re: Dining Sets in your FDR..UPDATED WITH PICS... here is my quandry
I have a full dining table, buffet and hutch in my FDR, but we also have vaulted ceilings to the hutch doesn't look overbearing at all. It was a set that we inheritated that was in perfect condition. I love it, we keep all of our china in the cabinets and all of our knick knacks and fancy things in the hutch part. The buffet is really only used to store the booze.
