Direct Buy! Anyone a Member?
Someone was telling me about this place and it sounds great. Home stuff for the Manufacture price. Anyone a member? We are thinking about it. Any feedback would be great - good or bad!

There are a lot of bad reviews of Direct Buy. The initial cost to join is very high and I find it hard to believe that you can save so much money. I renovated my entire house, and with purchases on the internet, I was able to save quite a bit of money.

My friend joined. The price to join was high but she seems to think it's worth it. They had to furnish an entire house and bought really good quality furniture. She did some comparison shopping for me on a stove and they did offer it for about $100 less than I would have paid in a store. I'm not convinced though.

My neighbor joined only because he is a contractor and fixes up houses all the time. He said its totally not worth it for someone else though. I think it was thousands of dollars.

My friends got a membership and they said it was a huge waste of money. They got it when they starting building their house upstate because they thought they'd get good deals on wood flooring, rugs, carpets, tiles, etc and in most (if not all, can't remember what she said) cases, her contractor got it for her cheaper. The only thing she bought from DB was her bed. $4000 down the drain. I wouldn't bother getting a membership.

DH was seriously thinking about doing it after some of the guys he works with told him about it. The guy he works with has been very happy with his experience.
It's a great deal if you are doing a lot to your house (like putting in a new kitchen or furnishing it from scratch). If you arent' doing too much, it's not worth it.
One of my friends went with her free pass and decided against joining. If you decide against it, you don't get another opportunity so make sure you look into it thoroughly before you go!

we went and it seemd like scam, FH totally thought it was BS, it seemed liek a timeshare in florida the way they were trying to sell you

Thank you all for your comments and links. DH doesn't know if it will be wortht it or not. I guess it will depend on what type of house we wind up with. If we have to fix and furnish a lot then we might join. I have heard mixed comments from coworks also. Thanks everyone!

My friends joined and they HATE it. The fee to be a member is RIDICULOUS, and they said they really arent saving that much $$$

We have been a member for close to 9 yrs now and have nothing but good experiences with them. We saved a TON of money on a master bedroom, my 2 girls bedrooms, carpet for 2 floors and basement. It was about $2k to join back then and about $100-120/yr after that.
The membership fee paid for itself in the first purchase with the savings we got.
I won't recommend it though if you only have a few things to buy. We were just moving in and had multiple rooms to furnish/carpet etc.
