Thats why God created bottles...squeeze some breastmilk in it slap a nipple on it and Dad is good to go with feeding the baby
I've suggested this before and was told something about it being confusing to a child and they should only feed from the breast
Well as Genesis so eloquently put it back in the 80's
This is a Land of Confusion...the wee babe will get used to it

Re: Discussion....Breast feeding at your desk in the office
The conference room unfortunately is all windows, but if someone saw her in there no one would bother her.
I think my boss could make special arrangements. We have one office that is empty and I am sure he would leave the door unlocked for her.

I had no idea a baby could be confused by that. My SIL fed from the breast and pumped for my nephew. No problems.

I had no idea either. I thought that pumping would be good if you know you cant breast feed at a certain time. Pump and then leave the bottle for daddy to give while you are working.

The husband brings her and the baby into work. She feeds the baby while at her desk, phones ringing and everyone else trying to get their jobs done. Yes she is right in the front. She's the first desk on the floor when you walk in.
I'm in FL
She can't come into work herself? I'm not sure about the BF laws in Florida. Maybe instead of someone scolding her they should make sure there is an empty room available for her. I'm all for nursing wherever you want, but I'm not sure about nursing at work. I know if I had the opportunity I would.

Re: Discussion....Breast feeding at your desk in the office
Well as a nursing mom, I always pump or nurse Jordana at my desk, but I have a private office. I think she should have asked for a private space- and if not, then she should just cover up.
Unless a bathroom has a chair, I can't imagine nursing in there. Can you imagine sitting on the toilet for 10 minutes feeding your child?

Re: Discussion....Breast feeding at your desk in the office
the only reason I would be annoyed about someone breast feeding at the work desk, is that they wouldn't be able to answer the phones
but before you boss says something he should have an arrangement set up for her in a private non-bathroom room, so she doesn't get all crazy on him when he mentions something

Yea thats a whole other thread about her coming into work herself.
I am sure my boss will make special arrangements for her but I just dont think doing it at your desk while others are trying to do their work and your own phone is ringing is really appropriate.

That is ridiculous. Your desk at work is just not appropriate at all. Give me a break.

If you have a private office I think that is fine. You can close your door for privacy.
If she really wanted to she could wheel her office chair in. Our office is not really that big.
Heck she wheeled the office chair to her car because she liked it and wheeled it back in when she was returning to work.

Ditto.
As for the pump in a bottle. Jaidyn will not take a bottle at all (learned this lesson when Damien was in the hospital getting surgery ) So not all babies take a bottle.

Re: Discussion....Breast feeding at your desk in the office
I have to say, I get very frustrated at times. There is SO MUCH pressure for a woman to breastfeed. In fact, a report from the government likened not breastfeeding to smoking while pregnant (not that I agree with this at all).
BUT no one wants women nursing in public and people aren't willing to make accomodations. So what is a woman to do? Severeal women I know gave up breastfeeeding because at work there was no place to pump but the bathroom. It gets so frustrating at times.

Re: Discussion....Breast feeding at your desk in the office
While I think it is totally inappropriate, it raises a question/issue that places should be set up for women to breast feed/pump while at work.
My job-- which I actually just had my last day on Fri-- the bathrooms were tiny, and two people couldn't even look in the mirror at the same time. There was another small room-- which only by chance the women who needed to pump went in there, but if the structure of the offce was different, there would have been no where for them to go. And the office was so jam packed-- there was not an empty desk, room, etc., and the conference rooms were always being utlized.
I know this is not the point of the post-- but, it really p!sses me off that working mothers have it so hard. Regardless, even if you don't care-- you should not make other people around you uncomfortable. Strangers are one thing, but your co-workers is just insane!

The company should provide her with a clean and comfortable place to feed her baby.

Re: Discussion....Breast feeding at your desk in the office
I think it is inappropriate and would hope she could find a private spot.
I have resigned myself to the fact that if I ever have a baby, I don't think I can even pump at work. No privacy other than the bathroom and it is so unclean I can't imagine pumping in there and giving it to the baby.

Re: Discussion....Breast feeding at your desk in the office
Ok, I guess I just can't wrap my brain around this one...how many times a day is her husband there with the baby? BF babies can nurse very often. I take issue with the fact that she has her baby at work at all. Wouldn't we all just love to bring our children to work?
