Re: Discussion....Breast feeding at your desk in the office
Okay i have a very random question...for those moms who said their kids will only nurse from the breast and not from a bottle....can i ask you how do you manage to get anything done?? I don't mean that negatively, but i can't imagine having to be at my babies beck and call every time they need to eat (applause to you if that is the way it is). Is there a way to ween your baby to suck on the bottle?
My issue with this is not the fact that she is breastfeeding in public, rather it's that she is at her desk where she is suppose to be working! If you are going back to work after having a baby you need to make accomodations so that you can work during those hours. If you need to go and take a break to BF then do that, but not at you desk while you are working. Sorry but that is the same thing as me bringing my child to work while i sit at my desk, changing his diaper on my desk, etc. And there is no way my employer would allow that. JMO.

I wonder how many of you have actually seen a woman BF publicly? Are you basing your answers on that? I mean for the most part is it is done so discreetly you don't even know it is happening.
The only place I've ever seen it done in public was in the dining room at Burger King

I get stuff done but I do have to be at her beck and call. It is a sacrifice I am willing to make for her. I am very lucky to have an understanding boss, and an office with a door
ETA: I work in Day Care and my daughter is with me. I realize this is not the norm for other BF Moms

Re: Discussion....Breast feeding at your desk in the office
First, why does the baby need to be at work with her?? That in itself is inappropriate. Isn't that why they invented the breast pump??
Two, yes it is inappropriate. The work place has a different set of rules then a public place. She should go to the bathroom or a breakroom to do that.

Two, yes it is inappropriate. The work place has a different set of rules then a public place. She should go to the bathroom or a breakroom to do that. As many people have already said, it is not that easy. Pumping is not always a solution & the company is REQUIRED BY LAW to provide a non-restroom environment for her to feed her child.

I don't think it's appropriate to do that at your desk in the workplace!! Especially since there is somewhere else she can go!
Exactly.

Re: Discussion....Breast feeding at your desk in the office
I am planning on BF'ing and I know that when family is visiting and it is time to feed the baby I am going to excuse myself to the nursery to be in private and that is my own family. I mean isnt there a corner or cubicle not being used? I just imagine my desk here at work how out in the open it is and cannot imagine BF'ing here. But on the flip side, you do what you gotta do I guess.

Re: Discussion....Breast feeding at your desk in the office
You ladies are funny..
I did talk to my boss today and he said he is taking her off Saturdays and having her work Mon - Fri 6pm - 10pm this way she can be with the baby all during the day and on weekends.
She's making a ton of mistakes in her own work so this was the only option he could come up that would allow her to do her job correctly and be with her baby.

Re: Discussion....Breast feeding at your desk in the office
Hi - I was doing a search and found this thread. Can someone please provide me some more info, or maybe a link, on any laws that NY has? I saw that several posts said that companies either need to accomodate us, or are required, by law, to provide non-restroom environments. I tried looking it up online and can't find anything for New York. I need to send this over to HR.
Thanks so much!
