Disney - Car Rental?
Did you rent a car if you stayed on Disney property? Trying to figure out a budget...

Re: Disney - Car Rental?
If you want to save $$ and you dont plan on leaving the disney property to go to universal or anything then its definitely not necessary to rent a car. The shuttles they provide are awesome and take you to all disney locations

It's not necesary but it's really handy to have one. The buses get annoying after a while, it's so much easier if you are going to eat at resorts other then your own, plus you have the option to eat off property or get some snacks & beverages without paying a fortune in the gift shops.

Re: Disney - Car Rental?
We've been there with and without a car.
I totally prefer having a car, although it's do-able without one.

This is what we did - we used shuttles otherwise.

Re: Disney - Car Rental?
We have rented cars on 3 of our trips - but did not on the last trip. Honest it is nice to have depending on where you are staying and your plans. If you stay at a monorail resort and don't plan to leave the property you don't need one. If you stay at say the AKL which is far - or one that is farther or might have more crowded buses OR you plan to visit other resorts or go off site for a day or two it might be worth it.
Check out mousesavers.com - she has so many codes for the various companies on her site and tells you how mix and match codes to get the best rates.
In the past we rented from National.
But the last trip we stayed at the Poly and used Magical express and didn't need the car at all. So it really depends on your plans and what you want.

Re: Disney - Car Rental?
it depends on a few things... are u traveling with lil ones? where are you staying? do you plan on park hopping or bouncing around to different hotels for the restaurants? when are you going?
DH & I stayed at the Boardwalk Villas this past Sept & we chose to solely depend on Disney transportation. Staying at the Boardwalk allowed us to walk or take the boat to Epcot, take a boat to Hollywood Studios and then take the bus to the other parks & DTD. Since we went in Sept, it wasnt as crowded as it would be in the dead of summer. However - we were trying to get back to the Boardwalk from dinner at the Contemporary one night and we ended up waiting for a bus with everyone who was waiting to leave MK after the fireworks...that was not fun at all!!

Re: Disney - Car Rental?
We did not and never felt like we missed out during our stay.
We stayed at the Polynesian so it was right on the monorail.
We used the free Mickey express transportation from and to the airport. It was very convenient.
