I think I am finalized with my dining reservations for our 9 day trip on the dining plan...even though every week I log on to the app and change things around lol.
My choices are more for our 4 kids to get the most "Disney" experience while taking into consideration their older ages 13,11,7 and 2 at time of travel and that it's their first visit (that they will remember since last trip was 10 years ago)
Akershus Lunch
50's prime dinner
Star Wars dessert party
Be Our Guest- Bk, lunch and dinner booked here to get good use of our QS credits
Garden Grill Dinner
Tusker House Brunch
Ohana BK and Dinner
Cape May Breakfast
Hoop De Doo Revue
1900 Park Fare Dinner
Sci-Fi Lunch
Fantasmic Dining package at Hollywood & Vine

So we are going to Disneyland next month in Cali. I'm amazed at the lack of planning you actually need to do there! No fast pass reservations, minimal dining, and every single restaurant still pops up when I logged on. No worrying about buses because the parks are in walking distance. The two parks have a few less attractions in it than all 4 WDW parks combined. Man, this is easy! Chat Icon

My biggest decision was staying "onsite" vs. off, but offsite hotels are just as close, since they are across the street! Ultimately I decided to splurge and go with the onsite Disneyland Hotel, because the monorail pool looks great, and I love the theming. Since this is a surprise graduation trip for my son, I figured why not! We have been to WDW like 20 times, so this is a welcome change!!

This is totally why, if we ever do Disney, we will be doing it in CA.
I hate planning. I do enough of that at work.
I am glad to hear Disneyland is much easier to deal with.
I want to see the west coast anyway so we might make it a stop on a bigger trip.

I feel like WDW used to be this way -no pressure, no fast passes, we never made dining res AND the characters used to walk around the park. That was cool & made it feel special!

Yes! We have been going since my 18 year old was 2, and way back when I remember getting $49 a night rooms at the values, $49 each way DING fares on Southwest, cheap dining, many characters, paper fastpasses, and not nearly as many crowds!

We went during Spring break. It was very doable. We stayed 30 minutes away. The striking thing was that the downtown Disney area is right outside the park (less than a block away), so we took a nice break with decent food. We spent a lot of time in the Mickey/ Minnie house area.. which even my 6 year old thought was awesome. We got in off the alternate list for the Star Wars show (so no running through the park or getting there at gate drop.. not our style). Waits were not bad... about 20 minutes for everything! Old school fast passes were easy to coordinate. The only thing that was a disaster was the parade. It seemed like the area was not set up to accommodate a big parade and people were trapped in pockets. It got downright nasty.

There is a lot to do around the area... we are not the typical breathe, eat and sleep Disney type. Kids loved the sea lions & zoo. Weather is also awesome. 6 hour plane ride though...

I stay offsite and I think you can still make it this way. We seriously buy tickets and do FP the night before from the poolside. We get to the park after a leisurely breakfast, we book dinner while at the park. We have yet to be stressed or feel like we missed something. We just don't stress about HAVING to do something (like a particular character breakfast). We book a FP for character if that is a priority. To me... it's worth it.

I've read the parade shit show posts on various blogs. People used to line up hours upon hours before to get a spot apparently. Then Disney changed the "rules" and you can only line up two hours before. Two hours is INSANE to me. I don't even line up 2 hours before at WDW. But, my "go to" page, Disneyland Daily, has some great parade tips with less crowded, and more open space in certain areas.

We are staying at the Disneyland Hotel, so we will have access to early entry each day, which will be nice. And we can just walk from the parks and Downtown Disney, to our hotel. We are early risers so will definitely be there when it opens each morning!

So my dining opened today. Got on at 5am to book Chef Mickey's and CRT. Was only able to get 10:15 for Chef Mickey's and there was nothing at all for CRT! Is there something I'm missing about them? Any advice?

Keep checking. People cancel all the time.
Join touring plans for free and set up a res finder. It will text you when someone's cancels and it becomes avail. Same thing for Mousedining.com.

People cancel all the time, especially at 60 days when their fast passes are booked and at 30 days when the payment in full is due for the trip.

Does anyone know if you can get walk in apts at Bippy Bobbity Boutique? I'm reading conflicting things. I wanted to do this for DD but didn't realize it would book up immediately. I'm really not interested in the one at Disney Springs, we're only going there one evening for dinner/shopping and I feel it would be a waste.

I'm also considering the pirate thing. DS would like it but how is it for a girl? Has anyone done this?

I would not try for a walk up for bbb. If it does work out it's bc you got extremely lucky that someone canceled. I would keep calling and trying for a reservation.

My friend has done the pirate thing, it's cute, not our style, but they come out looking like pirates. I did it with my son and he LOVED it.

If you can't get in at BBB, you can walk in and ask to be sprinkled with pixie dust. They do a little thing, and sprinkle them. It's cute, and better than nothing.

Can I make a suggestion even though you don't want to do Disney Springs BBB? I was able to get an appt there for right after they opened. We took the bus from the resort, DD had her makeover, then we walked over to Saratoga Springs and got the bus to Epcot. It worked out really well.
