Disney in January?

Is that a really bad time to go as far as weather?

Re: Disney in January?

we went last year in mid feb and we froze- could not swim at all and had to wear out winter coats at the nite parade and fireworks, heavy sweat shirts durning a few days and long sleeves the rest of the time. that was what we had, but who knows what next year could hold, could have wonderful warm weather. good luck

Well it depends on what you want form the trip. Honestly I LOVE January. We went for DH's 1st trip the 2nd week of January - so after the New Years Crowds leave. The decorations were still up for the 1st day or two of the trip. There were almost NO lines for ANYTHING. I think the longest line was 15 mins long. Everything was either a walk on or 5 mins wait tops!

The weather can be wildly inconsistent though. We wore layers and had to pack more than in Sept or May. Days were mostly lower 70's - we had one day in the 60's and one day it reached like 82. Mornings were cool though so we wore tee shirt and jeans with a sweater or sweatshirt and a light jacket/wind breaker that we could take off and stuff into a bag by around 10 or so. Evenings however were cold. It was upper 40's and we hit a real cold spell and it was 30's one or two nights The night it was in the 30's we actually bought gloves and were wearing our winter coats every night. So coats and night and we did get 1 day of swimming in.

My feeling is if you want to tour the parks and get in a lot of rides/shows/attractions the weather is perfect - not too hot, no long lines etc. BUT if you are looking for a lot of lounging by the pool and sun time - you probably want to find another time. I have friends who have gone in Jan and some years they swim a few times and others not at all.

You can do a search I think and check out the weather for the past few years for the week you want to go to get a better idea.

We went in January one year & I agree with PP about the weather being crazy.
We needed jackets 5 days out of the 7 that we were there. It was warm enough to get in the pool for a few hours one day but that's it.

I was there for about 5 days in early February this year. The first day we were there it was definitely capri, flip flops and t-shirt weather.

By the day we left, we were wearing jeans, sweatshirts and sneakers. Oh and jackets at night.

BUT - the parks were EMPTY and it's a great time of year to go to avoid crowds (this was before the school vacations).

We went in mid-January 2010 and it was high 70s low 80s the entire time. We used the outdoor pools!

I honestly would go again at the time of year just for the thinner crowds at the parks. The park was still busy (I think the locals came out in droves because it was such nice weather.) but it was much more bearable than when we went in March the year before.

If you want atan - I'd say skip it. If you don't mind a chance of cold wether - go for it. I went in January many years ago and it was warm - shorts weather. I went this past December and it hit 30's. They said that was more February weather but I got it and it was cold. I wenjt with 2 kids and pregnant and it was fine - didn't ruin our trip - just had to pack more clothes and layer.

We went right before Christmas and it was the same. It was 70s so we were in t-shirts and jeans, a sweatshirt at night. The park was a lot less crowded than the spring/fall. It was great! I mean, no outdoor pools, but we did spend many a night in the outdoor jacuzzis at our hotel. Chat Icon

Re: Disney in January?

I definitely agree with the prior posters.

DH and I went in January one year(Martin Luther King week) and we got to see everything and anything without waiting a whole lot in lines.

Considering the cost of the tickets for these parks, I'd definitely go back in January just because we didn't miss out on anything due to long lines. We got to see all the parades, Fantasmic, etc.

Good luck with your decision!

Re: Disney in January?

we went two years ago for new years and it was great! during the day it was jeans and tee shirt weather -- 70s but a few days it hit the 80s! At night, you needed jeans and a sweatshirt, there was one night that I needed my fall jacket but other than that, we were fine. It is a great time to go!

Re: Disney in January?

We went a few days after New Years and it was PERFECT beyond PERFECT. Parks were empty and the weather was in the upper 70's low 80's the whole time. Without a doubt.. next time we visit... We will be going in January

Re: Disney in January?

We went Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend this year and had the best time. It wasn't that crowded and the weather was decent. It was high 60's to low 70's. It did get very chilly at night and in the morning. I would definitely go back there at that time again with no hesitation.
