Re: Disney vacation club
I can't speak from personal experience, but friends of ours have had it for years and love it. They drive down, use some points for Disney's Hilton Head Resort in SC, drive to Disney, then stay a couple of days back at Hilton Head before driving home.

Re: Disney vacation club
We looked into when we were down in Disney last year. It seemed like it's only worth it if you take a big vacation every year and are willing to only go on vacations where the Disney vacation club operates. you will be on disney property just about every where you go. in addition, we thought by the time you added air fare and admission to the parks (if you go that route) to what it would cost you for the year to have it, it got a bit pricey. we just didnt' need another expense.
However, it seemed a lot better than other timeshares because you own the property for about 50 years (you can sell if you want out) and they had a lot of places you could trade into.

Re: Disney vacation club
We are in it and love it!!!! There are Disney properties and then there is a whole bunch of other participating hotels and resorts that are not Disney that you can use it at also.
For us it was really the only way to go. We are a family of 6 and like to go to Disney pretty frequently. It works out better for us than getting 2 rooms or a suite without being in the vacation club.

Re: Disney vacation club
We just bought into it last month.
I suggest you go to Roosevelt Field - they just opened Disney's Doorway to Dreams, which is a store to sell you the vacation club, so they can answer any questions you have (btw they have a VERY low pressure sales approach!)
If you vacation once every three years of more it is worth it, they say. You can also book almost anywhere in the world for a nominal fee thanks to RCI.
If you factor the cost of a membership over the 50 years its good, as long as you use it, it is a good deal. The best deal is at Disney, of course lol It will be one less cost to factor in the vacation.
I know a few people in it, and every one just loves it. And based on other timeshares, it's a lot better from what I have heard.

Re: Disney vacation club
We have it and love it. We've been members since 2000 (before we even had kids) and have gone to many different places, not just Disney properties. It is great at Disney though because having the suites makes our vacation so much better--can put the kids to bed and then go into the other room and not have to go to sleep with them like we do in regular hotel rooms!
Our home base is the Beach Club Villas. I love the DVC so much I am actually training to work for them!

Us too. Bay Lake Tower was pretty much the reason that DH wanted to look more into it.
We took our first DVC vacation 2 weeks ago and stayed at Bay Lake and Animal Kingdom. We stayed in studio rooms in both places, they were very roomy with kitchenettes in them. It was just us and we don't have any children yet so it was perfect! We banked our extra points and plan on taking DH's parents and my SIL and her husband and their 3 kids next year. With our banked points we are getting a 3 bedroom place that sleeps 12! I can't wait!!
We decided to do it because we do want to be able to take a big vacation every year. Like I said, we don't have children yet and we were able to do a payment plan where we could pay it off within the next 2 years. This way we have it for the next 50 years and it will be paid off for 48. All we will have to pay is the dues. For us, it just made sense.
FYI - They are building a new hotel in Hawaii that will soon be another "home" hotel.

Re: Disney vacation club
I love my DVC membership! It was one of the best things I ever bought. My home resort is Saratoga Springs but to tell the truth, I've only stayed there once.
Now that they have partnered with RCI, you can vacation anywhere. We tend to go at least once or twice a year and it's a great deal.
I bought in several years ago with my sister. We both made sure we bought enough "points" to stay for a week in a one-bedroom at peak time. It is definitely worth it.

Re: Disney vacation club
Do pay monthly towards it or do you have to pay all at once?
Are the tickets to the park included?

There's an annual maintenance charge that you can pay on an annual or monthly basis. The amount is based on the resort and number of points you purchase.
Park tickets are not included but you do get a discount on annual passes (both new passes & renewals).

Re: Disney vacation club
We are DVC owners as well. Started out at Beach CLub and added on at Bay Lake. I love both resorts for different reasons.... We go once a year and look forward to it all year long.

You can take out a 10 year mortgage with DVC. You can also pay the maintenance fees monthly or once a year.
