Re: Disney's Contemporary Resort
Yes, many times. We just returned from Bay Lake Tower the DVC resort which is part of the Contemporary.
How long are you planning on staying and what to you Plan to do at WDW? If your focus is MK the C Resort is a great choice. If you are more interested in Epcot and Hollywood Studios I would recommend the Beach Club, our favorite Disney resort.

Re: Disney's Contemporary Resort
We're heading down to Bay Lake the first week of October. It will be my 4th stay there (was there this May also) - but DH's first.
We used to stay in the Contemporary a lot when I was a kid. It's great because of the walkway to Magic Kingdom.

What is Bay Lake? Part of the Contemporary?
Bay Lake is the DVC villas at the Contemporary. The exact name is Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort. Bay Lake Tower is connected to the Contempory Resort monorail level by a covered bridge. Guests staying at Bay Lake can use all of the Contemporary Resort Amenities - but Contemporary Resort guests can't use Bay Lake's.
The rooms are villas - not regular hotel roooms - consisting of studios (with kitchenette), one bedroom and two bedrooms with complete kitchens, living room area, etc. There's also the grand villas that have 3 bedrooms and sleep 12.

Yes - the regular rooms at the Contemporary do not have kitchens. The studios at Bay Lake have a very very very small kitchenette. Small sink, mini fridge, microwave, coffee pot.
The kitchens in the one or two bedrooms are nicer than the kitchen in my first apartment!!!

Yes you can stay at any DVC resort without being a member. You can either rent points directly from a member or through a rental company (this is usually cheaper but does involve some risk). You can also book directly with Disney.

Re: Disney's Contemporary Resort-added question
Villas are not cheap, but they offer lots of space, often extra bathrooms and 1 bedroom and above have a FULL kitchen.
We're staying at BLT in a Studio in October. I love it, as others have mentioned, because it's a short walk from Magic Kingdom.
Depending on your dates, there may be an offer available. On the Disney website, they won't automatically give you the offer if you don't specifically click on it. That's the benefit of working with an agent. An agent will work with you on choosing the right dates to match current promotions (sometimes coming a day later can save hundreds), or if a better or new promotion comes out, an agent will switch you to that promotion.

I rented dvc points through dvc-rental.com, the entire process was simple and we stayed at a fraction of the cost. I booked everything myself.

We plan on staying a week. I have a 2 yr old and 6 month so we just want to do Magic Kingdom.
The Contemporary and BLT are very different IMO - depending on whether you get a tower room or garden wing at the Contemporary (BLT looks very nice and is brand new - the tower rooms at the Contemporary are nice but the garden wing just so you know is a bit far from the main building and is much older - but is okay just older). If you don't decide to go the DVC route have you considered the Poly? I think the theming is nicer than the Contemporary - and is very convenient for the MK and EPCOT.
Please don't discount places like EPCOT or AK. DD#1's 1st trip she was 15 months and LOVED all three of those parks - MK and EPCOT the best then AK - she wasn't crazy on either trip about HS - but would probably enjoy it better now that she is older. Our second trip DD#1 was one month from turning 3 and DD#2 turned one on the trip (they are 23 months apart). Both girls of course loved the MK but they also loved EPCOT. If you are there for a week please don't discount it. They have a lot more than people realize. My girls loved the living seas - and the Finding nemo ride and turtle talk with crush, they also loved - spaceship earth, journey into your imagination (and the play area after the ride), the interactive fountain between future world and world showcase, innovations, the ride in mexico and in Norway, they loved some of the bands, acrobats etc in the various countries. If you stay at the poly you can just walk to the TTC and hop on the epcot monorail (if you are at the contemporary you just take the monorail to the TTC then transfer to the epcot monorail). Very easy - no buses and no taking your kids out of their stroller.
We have not stayed at the Contemporary but have stayed at the poly the last 2 trips. We did the Contemp to the MK walk both trips after having dinner at Chef Mickey's. It is an easy 5-10 min walk depending on your speed. If you decide to check out the Poly - you can get to the MK by monorail (just wheel your stroller on) or can walk to the TTC and hop the ferry - also no need to take your kids out of the stroller. I usually suggest the Poly over the Contemp simply because the theming is a bit more fun for the kids and the volcano pool is nice (also you can sit on the beach at night and they pump the music and narration for the fireworks right onto the beach so you can watch the fireworks with no hussel and bussle and with your kids in their PJs if you want.
BLT is a very nice new hotel but parts of the Contemporary are a bit older with less "disney" feel theming more conference type feel.
