Not sure if they all go through it but DS had a bit of it around 9-10 months and is getting another bout with it now at 22 months... Seems to be around the same time as his teething too so I assume it's a comfort thing....

Re: Do all babies go through separation anxiety? When did your DC have it?
DD is going to be 4 months on Monday and she doesn't go through "separation" anxiety so much but she will scream her head off if you try and hold her and she doesn't know you. My IL's came over two weeks ago and tried to hold her and she was inconsolable until I took her into the other room. She has been doing this at daycare too if there is a floating teacher that she doesn't recognize, etc. If she recognizes you then she's fine, if not, then forget it!

Re: Do all babies go through separation anxiety? When did your DC have it?
DS had it around 9-10 months, and again around 16-17 months. Now at 21 months, he rarely has problems, except when he is sick, then he gets clingy again, but that's understandable.
I don't know if all babies have this, but I think most do at some point.

DS started getting it around 12 months. it's only with me though. he has the same nanny sine he was 3 months old (my sister) and he cries when i leave the house. he also does not like strangers holding him - but he'll smile and wave at them all day long

I also am the one who has the separation anxiety. I get upset every time I have to leave DS.
DS doesn't seem to have separation anxiety....at least not yet at 6 months.

Re: Do all babies go through separation anxiety? When did your DC have it?
I think most babies go through it at some point. DS is 9 months and starting to go through this. Not only does he get hysterical if I leave the room, he flips if I get up from feeding him and walk 20 ft away to get more food. It doesn't matter that there's still food in front of him and that he can see me. He doesn't like it if I walk away from him.

Actually DS is similar in that he wants someone to be near him at all times. He'll be perfectly happy but if you leave the room to use the restroom or get a glass of water, he'll start getting upset. Even when he naps, if he opens his eyes and sees you, he'll fall right back asleep but if you are not in the room, he'll start crying. I didn't think that was separation anxiety or is it?

DS has always liked being held or being near me. He also used to open his eyes, make sure one of us was there and then fall back asleep. He'll also grab me or my shirt and hold onto me while he sleeps. For a while, I could leave him to go to the bathroom or get something done and he'd usually be ok.
Now, he has the most awful cries if I leave the room. It's like he's in pain. There were times around 6 months old when he'd get a little upset if I walked out of the room. To me, he was showing some signs of separation anxiety. Now, with him getting extremely upset when I walk away and calming down when I come back, it's definitely separation anxiety.
Barb, that post was hysterical.

Re: Do all babies go through separation anxiety? When did your DC have it?
I think DD is beginning to have it at night -- she will flip if someone other than me goes into her room to get her if she wakes up, and then as soon as she sees me, she laughs. She is fine during the day while I am at work, and will go to pretty much anyone, but will want me to take her back within a minute or two. She also is starting to get angry if we leave her alone in a room. -- 6 1/2 months

Re: Do all babies go through separation anxiety? When did your DC have it?
DD is going through it majorly for the past two week starting at like 8.5 weeks...she will not let anyone including DH put her down for bed and she would always be fine with him, it's all me, and if I leave a room she goes nuts, which makes for making dinner and lunch great!!

Re: Do all babies go through separation anxiety? When did your DC have it?
not sure if this is it, but right around 12 months, when he wakes from nap, when I get him, as soon as I put him down he cries. it takes him a few minutes of waking up to stop.

Re: Do all babies go through separation anxiety? When did your DC have it?
I would think so. My DD is very laid back, but lately if I'm out of her sight for even a half second she is having a fit. Dropping her off lately at daycare has been SO trying. Up until 2 weeks ago, she could care less if I was leaving her there or not, now it's heartwrenching because the second I put her down to play she becomes an inconsoloable mess. Sometimes I have to just drop her off, distract her and run without even saying goodbye.
She's 7.5 months old

Re: Do all babies go through separation anxiety? When did your DC have it?
dd had it bad at like 4/5-6 months. i couldn't leave her alone for more than five seconds...VERY annoying. it gradually got better, but once she learned to crawl it pretty much went away. 25 minutes passed by one time while i was washing dishes and i noticed she didn't "call" for me at all. i actually missed her!
