My 9m old threw a tantrum today because I wouldn't let her take the neosporin to school with her. You'd have thought I beat her. Shes going to be a handful.

Chat Icon this sounds like my dd! She's normally a very happy toddler, but when I have to take something away from her that she shouldn't have or tell her no for any reason, she cries so hard, stomps her feet and usually falls to the floor. And it's always for such silly things too, like taking her toothbrush away to rinse it. You'd have thought I just killed the dog in front of her the ways she reacts. But usually I can get her to stop by diverting her attention to something else. Not sure how long that will work for. I'm assuming as she gets older she'll get more stubborn before she passes this stage.

I was able to divert her with her birdie but for so young she is very hard headed. When she got home neosporin was on coffee table she crawled over and happily played with the tube like it was her best friend. Dh took it away so he can feed her and epic meltdown #2 started.

every kid has their moments (some certainly worse than others) but I think it's horrible to make a mom struggling with something feel worse by acting like your kid is perfect when they aren't

Just sayin

You actually took the time to dig up an old post? That's so pathetic and
Chat Icon Chat Icon. Get a life.

I never said she was perfect, she's had a moment here and there (like ALL kids) but on the whole, NO, she was not one to throw a tantrum, especially on a regular basis. It was a blue moon type of thing with her. I can count on one hand how many times she had a fit.

And nobody is trying to make anyone feel bad, she asked a question and I answered...........as did many others who also said their child was not a tantrum thrower.

Get over yourself, pathetic. Chat Icon

I actually kinda wrote the same thing you did. Now I am fearful someone's going to search my 1st dds behavior and conclude she's a monster...lolChat Icon I am unsure why that was necessary. For me my second def throws more tantrums then my first. I guess in the future we can search both children and begin a thesis..Chat Icon

Also I would like to say something about Hofstra. She takes A LOT of heat on here for her rosy outlook and feelings on her life. She often says how great her kids and husband are.

Why is this so wrong?

I get that a lot of people feel like she says it when others are looking for support so yes I can agree that maybe being a little more sensitive in that respect would be helpful but often she posts in on threads that are not looking for support and STILL gets heat.

Honestly, good for her. Clearly NO ONE'S life is perfect and I highly doubt her's is either but good for her for choosing to look at the good and focusing more on that then the bad.

In a world full of unsatisfied people who don't appreciate what they have at least she does , so cheers to her. Chat Icon

DS1 didn't really throw crazy tantrums. His idea of a tantrum was to silently throw himself on the floor and just lie there. He'd also hit himself if he was upset about something. My 18 month old more than makes up for it. He will have a tantrum because I broke a piece of cheese in half instead of giving it to him whole or didn't let him take food out of a wraper or container himself. He's so stubborn and only wants things done a certain way pr all hell breaks loose.

. Wow, that was rude and uncalled for ! The op asked a question and she answered. Some people are looking to start fights. To answer the original question: yes, I do know kids who are not big on tantrums. My cousin was like that . Almost never had meltdowns unless he was extremely tired or stressed out. A very easy going, non reactive kid. Each child has different temperament and way of experiencing the world, so there are certainly children whose unique personalities make them much less likely to have frequent tantrums.

Maybe it's like childbirth where you forget about the pain. I guess they forgot about our tantrums. Chat Icon
DD is approaching 2 and has them all the time. Not looking forward to 3!

I think it's easy to forget how it was. I always say my big one is like a angel compared to my little one, but if I really think about specific examples, I can recall some major tantrums or times when I called dh asking if his behavior was normal.

I can compare just by the things we can do vs can't do. Dd#1 I was sitting in movie theaters before 2 , fancy restaurants etc..l dd#2 we can barely walk in to either. It's not that it's a bad thing, I just think first was easier. Dr told me most children actually do have the tantrums and she is more within the norm then dd#1.
