Do I need someone to drive me home after the retrieval and transfer?
DH is trying to figure out how many days he will have to take off because it's really hard for him so I need to know if he needs one or two days (if they fall on weekdays).

Do you NEED someone to drive you? After the retrieval - yes. You will be under anesthesia and are not allowed to drive for 24 hours (I think) after. After the transfer - no. You might want to have DH there with you, though. It's sort of a special time, if you know what I mean, and even though he may not be in the room with you, you may want him to be there and to drive home.
I drove myself there and back for the last few transfers because I didn't want to put anyone out - but for me it was sort of old hat....this is your first, you should probably have him there.

Yes- definately after the retrieval (you will be under anesthesia for the procedure) and for the transfer, I don't think the RE said I had to but I definately wanted to take it as easy as possible, so I did...

yes after retreival, since you will be out for the procedure. It's not necessary for the transfer, which will be either 3 or 5 days after retrieval.

I say Yes to both. The retrivial they wont let you leave unless someone there to drive you home b/c Of the anesthesia.
The transfer, Well your suppossed to be on bed rest afterwards and for me, I took it as easily as possible so there would be no what ifs and plus I would not wanted to have done that without DH.

Re: Do I need someone to drive me home after the retrieval and transfer?
Well for the retrieval your DH is going to need to go and provide his sample while you are under so that is a definite. For the transfer, my DH felt like he should at least be there while the dr knocked me up hahaha...
GOOD LUCK

Out of curiousity - why do you definitely need someone to drive you home after transfer?

Re: Do I need someone to drive me home after the retrieval and transfer?
My Dr required that someone drive me to retrieval which was my DH. I drove myself to my transfer(Poughkeepsie to NYC and then back to Poughkeepsie ) My Dr required 20 minutes of bed rest. Then I got back on the road-I laid my seat back as much as I could so as not to crunch the embies. I have actually read studies that say bed rest is no more effective than no bed rest also. I think each Dr has their own protocol though. I went to RMANY

Re: Do I need someone to drive me home after the retrieval and transfer?
It really depends on your RE. My first RE wouldn't let me drive home from either! He wanted me to stay laying down as much as possible for the first 24 hours so DH had to drive me home while I layed down in the car.
My current RE doesn't require bedrest at all and I know people drive themselves home from the transfer all the time.
