Re: do screaming kids bother you?
It bothers me when it's mine but not really when it's someone else's kid.
Screaming children on the subway (where I encounter them most often) don't bother me anymore now that I've had my own. Most recently I saw a girl pitching the BIGGEST FIT because her mother wouldn't let her eat food that fell on the floor of the dirty NYC subway... I felt so bad!

Maddie was very, very tempermental and I am confident that as an infant, her crying/screaming served as a contraceptive to every single cashier at Costco.
Nick was having a moment at a family party recently. DH's younger cousins were there (teenage boys and girls). They looked so panicked while Nick was crying, I said to DH "That's their safe sex lesson of the day!"

and I just wanted to mention that YES, sometimes I ignore my dd's tantrums, MOST of the time
So if you see me ignoring her while she is screaming, please know that this is intention and the best way for me to deal with her mood swings
I completely agree with this as I do this too!! My DD is very strong-willed and sometimes the best way to discipline her is to ignore her tantrum. So I am not condoning my child's behavior but rather I am trying to teach her a lesson that screaming will not get her what she wants.
Of course, I would not use a place such as a restaurant to teach that lesson. However, at the supermarket I would - especially after many of the behaviors I have witnessed by adults at food stores

Re: do screaming kids bother you?
nah... didn't bother me before I had a kid.
Kids scream... it happens. In no way do I think it reflects on the type of parent. Sometimes you just have a loud kid..
I'm sure I screamed as a kid and I think my parent's were WONDERFUL parents.
I was on a train the other day and a woman with 2 toddlers came on.../ the older one was 'restless' and crying and she did everything she could to calm him down. Then the OTHER one started to cry...She kept looking at me with a 'I'm sorry' look...
I said to her.. "doesn't bother me... he's a kid, what are you going to do."
I felt so bad for her.

Re: do screaming kids bother you?
Loud HAPPY children do not bother me. When children misbehave and parents sit idly by without intervening, THAT bothers me.

Re: do screaming kids bother you?
Normal crying does not bother me. Sreaming, screatching (especially those high pitched ones), tantrums, running around unsupervised makes my blood boil and skin itch... Even if my kid does it one day, same reaction. Sorry.
** this does not reflect on the mommy, my ears are just that sensative **

Re: do screaming kids bother you?
I don't even hear it anymore.
It's just "white noise" to me.

Re: do screaming kids bother you?
It's never really bothered me. I don't even think I have ever noticed it. It does bother me when it's my own child but I don't even notice other people's kids. I'm too involved in my own stuff to care about what others are doing.
