Do you allow your dog on the bed / sofa?

We do and since she is shedding so much I am re-thinking thatChat Icon

Just wondering how many of us do allow our fur babies to go on the bed and on the sofaChat Icon

Can you please also post what breed is your dog? How many lbs.? and how long have you had him / her?

Ours is Scarlette ( my current avatar)
Black Lab / Hound mix
She is 10 months old and 45 lbs.
We adopted her when she was 10 weeks old.
She is massively shedding right now Chat Icon

Re: Do you allow your dog on the bed / sofa?

We have 3 dogs. An 8lb toy poodle we've had for about 4 years. He is allowed on the bed and sofas because he does not shed and 2 pit mixes. Our biggest is 80lbs, we've had him for about 3 years. He used to be allowed on the bed but not the sofas. His shedding was never that bad but he did shed and there was nothing i could do to stop it. Once we got our 2nd pit mix about a year ago, she is around 60lbs, we stopped our big guy from sleeping on the bed. The smaller one sheds like crazy. I was sweeping every day before we got her and the hair was not that bad. Now, we still sweep everyday, sometimes twice a day and the amount of fur we get is ridiculous. She sheds all year round. i use the furminator and nothing works.

Re: Do you allow your dog on the bed / sofa?

<--- Cavalier King Charles Spaniel 30lbs
Rescue Terrier Mutt 14lbs

Both allowed on furniture...that's why we opted for leather couches instead of fabric & use a duvet cover on the bed that gets changed ever week.

ETA: the duvets I make sure to get in patterns so you don't notice the fur as much..(a solid color would be a mess)

Re: Do you allow your dog on the bed / sofa?

once we get the couch cleaned i am getting the gate to block off the living room... and when the gate isnt up she wont be allowed on it... it smells because of her

ETA: Shes a 68lb boxer...

we dont allow her on the bed anymore

1. because she peed in it a few weeks ago
2. shes just too big

Re: Do you allow your dog on the bed / sofa?

We don't let our dog on the bed and as for the couch, only his front paws can be on it...it's so funny. Usually everything but his back toes are on the couch but I don't consider that to be "on the couch!"

ETA he's a 75lb boxer and we've had him for two and a half years.

Re: Do you allow your dog on the bed / sofa?

Yes, but my dogs don't shed. Either way, I love to snuggle with them and could never deny them time with us on the sofa (or without us).

Re: Do you allow your dog on the bed / sofa?

Both of ours are not allowed on any furniture, never have been. They have their own dog beds. One doesn't like to cuddle, and the other we'll sit with on the floor or pet with from our places on the couch.

Re: Do you allow your dog on the bed / sofa?

I have 3 dogs - 1 Rottie- 70 lbs, 1 Old World German Shepherd (long haired) - 80 lbs, 1 German Shepherd - 75 lbs.

They are all allowed on everything. I have sheets on my couch and living room chairs, so when company is going to come I take them off.

I wash my comforter every week. Basically, I just live with the dog hair. I vac alot and clean, but I love my dogs, I love having Sam sleep in bed (the other 2 won't) and so I live with it.

Lots o'shedding though.

Re: Do you allow your dog on the bed / sofa?

My dog is a 1 1/2 year old field spaniel that weighs about 40 pounds. I've had him since he is 14 weeks old. He is allowed on the couch by not on the bed, he has two dogs beds on each side of our bed. He used to shed like crazy but I think he finally shed all of his puppy coat. Don't get me wrong, he still sheds but a bit less. I sweep daily and vacuum often .

We let her on both the bed and the couch. She doesn't sleep on the bed. She'll jump up if we are watching tv and have a little cuddle, but she gets booted before the lights go out.

She is allowed on the couch mostly because she's a huge cuddle bug and I love it, but I regret allowing her. She really thinks the arm chair is hers. She'll sit on it all day long and all I do now is vacuum it. She will also come sit on the couch and squeeze between my husband and I and she's be no means little.

ETA: She's a lab and 60lbs.

Maddie is allowed in our bed when we invite her but not on any other furniture (although lately she seems to be getting on it when we are not home Chat Icon ).

Re: Do you allow your dog on the bed / sofa?

We do- my dogs are spoiled rotten, especially the younger one- Lucy. Irwin is a 3-year old collie/golden retriever mix who sheds long hair like you wouldn't believe. Lucy is a 2 year old boxer/pit bull mix who sheds short hair like you wouldn't believe. Chat Icon Fortunately, we have leather couches so that's never an issue for fur. Their hair isn't too bad on our bed for some reason- maybe just because they aren't moving around so much and they tend to stick to one spot. Our issue is our clothes and the wood floors. Chat Icon

ETA: Lucy is so spoiled that if DH and I are cuddling on the couch and she's not allowed up there, she will go and bring her bed from the bedroom out into the living room or if the bedroom door is closed, she'll go into the bathroom and pull a shirt out of the hamper and put it on the floor to lay on rather than laying on the wood floor. Spoiled rotten!

Our dog is allowed on our bed, but not the couch.

Reason why 1 & not the other.. I like a dog-free zone for company, etc. And I like having her sleeping next to us.

Pumpkin is a 3½ year old puggle & we've had her 2 years. 25lbs.

Re: Do you allow your dog on the bed / sofa?

I have a 60 lb lab and we do not let her on the furniture - with ONE exception: We have a big comfy recliner and I am home alone a lot in the evening and once when I wasn't feeling well she jumped up on my lap there and I let her stay and cuddle. Now that's the only piece she can go on and ONLY if she is invited. She does not go on it by herself and she cannot jump up on someone unless they tell her it's okay. Amazingly, she seems to understand the rules!

I have an 80 lb yellow lab named Layla. We've had her 4 years. As a matter of fact, her birthday was this past Saturday Chat Icon.

Unfortunately, because of my ex-h she lays on the sofas and beds. I never liked it, but now that I'm alone most weekends, I feel safe having her sleep next to me.

I have a 25lb Boston Terrier.

He doesn't shed much, but I do find hair everywhere anyway!

Sometimes, he lets us on the bed with him. If we are lucky, he will move over and let us on the couch.

<------ Peanut has always been allowed on the couch and bed.

He is about 12 pounds. I have had him since he was 6 months. He is 4 now. I had him prior to getting married and lived alone so i always let him on the bed. A couple of months after being married, Dh and I trained him not to come on the bed at night. He can come on during the day.

Re: Do you allow your dog on the bed / sofa?

We allow them up if we invite them up to hang out with us, but they don't sleep there or just hop up on their own (well... not while we're around to see them. While we're out of the house is another story Chat Icon )

We've had our two shiba inus for 4 years now. They're 17 lbs and 26 lbs.
