Do you do a "big gift" at easter?
Just curious....I was going to say no, and Im still leaning that way. But there are a few cute big toys I wanted to get for DS anyway , but I dont want to overdo easter.
The plan for his basket was:
Jump rope Sidewalk Chalk Bolt/Toy Story DVD Monster Truck "Cars" car Play-doh Candy Bubbles
Thats enough, right?
If you are going a "big" gift what are you doing?

In the past my parents gave a big gift.
This year it is mostly small stuff: chalk, bubbles, books, slinky, stickers, Thomas toy etc

No. My personal preference is for my kids not to associate Easter with presents. We do the Easter basket thing, but 90% of it is candy and I'll probably get them a children's bible this year.

Re: Do you do a "big gift" at easter?
Nah, in my opinion Easter is not about gifts. Its bad enough that Christmas is about gifts. My husband used to do a big gift for his kids until I came along Now its really just chocolate/candy for the older kids, a stuffed bunny and some candy for the younger ones.
Barb, I apologize in advance for this year.

DD is only 15 months, so I am not doing a basket. I figure my Mom will get her something. That's about it.

I filled a basket with small gifts, but my mom is doing one large gift instead of making him a basket of little things.

Same here, I don't really want my DS to "expect" presents at Easter. As a kid my sister and I always got a basket with candy and *maybe* a small stuffed animal or something. That was it.

we are hiding plastic eggs, that's it. My family always buys them baskets filled with tons of stuff so i don't see any reason for it.

Re: Do you do a "big gift" at easter?
Ds is only 4 months old, so I wont be doing it this year. However growing up my parents use to give us our Easter baskets and 1 gift. They where huge gifts. I recall receiving a barbie, a cabbage patch kid, a video game, etc.

Re: Do you do a "big gift" at easter?
no big gifts here. They're getting gardening supplies (pail, gloves, rake, shovel) so they can plant with me and use them at the beach. Some books and a leapfrog dvd.
I'd rather not fill their baskets with candy.

Re: Do you do a "big gift" at easter?
thanks for the feedback. I ask bc we always got gifts at Easter which I dont really want to start, so the only baskets I have to gauge it by is my parents for us as kids and they went way overboard for us when we were little.
Went to Kmart on my lunch break and got him:
"Cars" car Monster Jam Monster Truck Sidewalk Chalk Jump rope Play doh Stickers Set of plastic Boats for the tub Bubbles Hershey Kisses "Cars" sippy cup
I still have to go to B&N and find him a childrens bible or childrens bible stories book.
Too much, or just right?

i agree. i am looking at these lists and doing this i cant imagine buying gifts..my house will be over run with more toys. there are so many events, birthday.. i just cant see scrambling to buy a bunch of things . dd is 15 months old. i might buy her a book and crayola crayons but thats it. when she gets older, i will do a basket and fill it with candy.

Sounds just right to be, but no basket is complete without a chocolate bunny so I would squeeze one in there

Re: Do you do a "big gift" at easter?
Your basket sounds awesome. I'm bought my son a basket and I plan on decorating it and using the same one every year(family tradition). I'm filling it with two books, a toy remote control (he is obsessed with ours!),a really adorable puppy stuffed animal, plastic eggs (for fun maybe I will fill them with something) and an easter bib. I guess I spent arount 50-60 bucks not including the basket and decorations for the basket. I don't plan to ever go super big and will prob always stay within the 50-60 range:)
I know my family will all be buying him stuff as well!

Re: Do you do a "big gift" at easter?
No, I have never really thought of Easter as a gift holiday.
DS is 15 months I picked up: a ball sidewalk chalk crayons bubbles a stuffed chickie and I am going to pick up a pail/shovel set.
That should be it ....but sometimes I do get a little over excited and buy more than I need
