Do you drive the "good car"?

This was a recent conversation with my GF. She wanted to know why I'm not driving the better car, especially since DH takes the train to work every day. My answer was whatever gets me from A to B is fine by me. Her arguement is the wife should always drive the good car. Thoughts?

Re: Do you drive the "good car"?

I drive the "good car" unless DH has to go somewhere far. I tend to agree with your friend. Thats the way it was with my Dad and mom-maybe it's when you have kids. Whoever stays home with the kids should have the newer/more reliable car.

WE drive together, but as rule whoever has Damien with them gets the good car.

Re: Do you drive the "good car"?

DH drives the newer car because it is an SUV and he drives less miles to work than I do.

Re: Do you drive the "good car"?

It just happened that I always had a newer car than DH even when we were dating. When we bought a new car in 04 I gave DH my old car which was still an upgrade from his bomb. Now with a baby on the way I think it's practical that I drive the better car.

Re: Do you drive the "good car"?

we only have one car, and take the subway to work, so that doesn't really apply to us.
But my mom always has had the good car and my dad always the crappy one.

Re: Do you drive the "good car"?

I drive the "good car" because it replaced my pre-marriage car. Though I think it's safe to say, I will always drive the good car—that's just how my DH is. But of course, he's welcome to take it whenever he wants or needs.

Re: Do you drive the "good car"?

Yep. We just got a new car and it's all mine. I actually offered it to DH, since he has a longer commute, but one of the main reasons we got this car was that I wanted AWD in the bad weather.

IMO, for parents, whoever is driving the children should have the good car.

Re: Do you drive the "good car"?

They're both "good" cars in their own right. Mine has better gas mileage and his is AWD...so in the winter we either commute together or I take his car.

Re: Do you drive the "good car"?

we both have good cars- we both work on LI

I think mine is better- mine is newer

but to be perfectly honest- my Mom always drove the "bad" car- the one that even us kids didn't want- she didn't care - she wasn't a car person

me and my dad - and Hubby are totally car people- so it matters to us- but to each his own

I think as long as it works for you- it's fine

Re: Do you drive the "good car"?

I drive the car, he drives the SUV.
I drive a Volvo, he drives a BMW.
I have no idea which is better, they are both really nice, mine is slightly newer.

Re: Do you drive the "good car"?

My mom had this theory as well -the woman gets the good car!

i think that whoever drives more with the children should drive whichever car is safer.

right now my FH drives my car more of the time and my car is the nicer car. I don't mind because even though his is older and not as nice, i find it easier to drive. the first time it breaks down on me though - i will be driving my car only!
