Re: Do you drive the "good car"?

I think whoever has kids should have the more reliable car.
DH and I both have brand new cars, he has the nicer of the new ones but he also pays the bigger payment

I think that as a "rule" that's Chat Icon

I have the "better/newer" car because my lease was up last year (I'll never lease again) and needed to buy something.

Re: Do you drive the "good car"?

I never thought of this. I bought my car in 2000 and DH bought his in 2001. His is his and mine is mine.

I think even now that we are married if either of us gets a new car, it will be to replace what we currently have and will obviously be that person's car.

Maybe it was just my parents, but each of them had their own car and picked it out. My parents' cars are not just general family cars, one is mom's and one is dad's.

Re: Do you drive the "good car"?

I drive my 7-yr old premarriage car that I love but is not "the good car" - he drives the newer/better car because it gets better gas mileage and he drives farther to work - that and I don't want the responsibility of driving the new car in case something happens to it. I've never gotten into an accident, I'm just paranoid.

Re: Do you drive the "good car"?

Whomever has the baby that day drives the "good" car, or when JT was working for News 12, he would take it in the snow because he had to go to work no matter what.

Re: Do you drive the "good car"?

We only have one (we kept the good car when we moved) right now, but when we had two he drove the old car (his before we met) as a station car and I drove the good car (which I bought when we were dating.)

This was a recent conversation with my GF. She wanted to know why I'm not driving the better car, especially since DH takes the train to work every day. My answer was whatever gets me from A to B is fine by me. Her arguement is the wife should always drive the good car. Thoughts?

she has a problem...a car is a car. I changed jobs recently and now am limited to driving the "good car" cause we lease it and own "the other car" and we have no problems with it.
as long as i get to where i need to go, it doesn't matter. if anything, i like DW to drive the "safer car" which happens to be the "good car". our other car is great and sometimes we drive that to a function espically now in the summer since the tops come off

Re: Do you drive the "good car"?

I drive the "good car" because I used to commute about an hour each way... DH takes the train and walks to the train station which is around the block!!

Re: Do you drive the "good car"?

I drive the good car. I'm the one driving the kids all around the world so I need the new, safe, (nice) car. He has an old Taurus (with no AC)...but he just drives it to the LIRR.

I do. If DH needs the car for work he takes the old car because it gets better gas mileage.

Re: Do you drive the "good car"?

I drive the good car. I leased it before DH and I got married. DH drives a station car. But he is bound to upgrade soon I'm sure. My lease is up next year and I will either buy this or lease or buy something else.

My mom has always driven the new car. Then my dad's car would go and he would buy her a new one and take the old one. And when that one would go he'd buy her another new one. I think he felt peace of mine knowing she was driving the more reliable car.

Re: Do you drive the "good car"?

Nope. DH has an Acura and I have a Saturn, but we both had them before we were married. I think DH should always have the better car anyway since he is in sales and spends hours on the road everyday.

LOL who came up with that? The wife should drive the good car? Chat Icon

We both drive equally nice cars...my DH has a 2005 jeep grand cherokee but he needs it for putting crap in the back...and i am perfectly happy with my 2005 toyota corolla. We are even thinking of trading the jeep in for something more gas efficient.

Re: Do you drive the "good car"?

Our cars are equal now, but before I had the crap car, DH the good one. I usually drove the crap car ( we had them each before we were married ) and honestly I never thought about it.

If we were going somewhere together , we took his, otherwise, didnt really care.
