Do you give yourself an allowance?
I was wondering what you girls do out there, do you take out a certain amount of money from the bank and use that much for the week? Or do you always use your debit card when making purchases?
I'm wondering if using cash only would help me curb my spending a little bit. Having the debit card makes it so easy to make purchases without really thinking about it.

I give myself $150 for the two weeks, most of the time i dont even spend it.

I don't but I should. I once suggested it to DH who said he was going to need $150/week. I thought this isn't going to work. I give myself $30 for food (my $1.74 eggs & my chai tea $3.75).

I usually use cash, I take our tenants rent and use that as my money for food shopping and gas.

I use about $50 a week, sometimes more, but usually less. I only use my debit card in case of emergency.

I use $100 every 2 weeks. This covers if I want to run to the dollar store, or buy scratch offs, little things like that. Sometimes I pay cash for gas.
My groceries are always paid on my debit card.

Me too. We each get that. Obviously some weeks may need more, some less, but we each 'get' $450/month for living $. That doesn't include gas or groceries or anything like that.

We each get $200 per week ... that includes breakfast & lunch money, gas for the cars and metrocards for work, dry cleaning and any dinners (take out or dining out) and entertainment.
We only use the debit card for groceries.

Same here. We don't have debit cards or ATM cards and that has been a huge savings for DH 'cause he would use the ATM SO frequently. Now we take out enough cash for gas, food, and play money every week. And I take out some extra for decorating the house and I just started taking out extra for holiday shopping.

That 's what we do
but I had a major fit last week and we aren't doing this anymore- cash only.... and we only get a certain amount.

I used to give myself $100 a week, but we're trying really hard to pay down credit cards, so I've moved to $60 a week.
As long as I bring my own lunch and we don't eat out for dinner too much, that's usually plenty.

Yes I get $350 every paychek. We get paid bi-weekly. What ever I dont spend I just keep in my "allowance" account for the next week. I usually use most of it. It give me about $175/week and thats for breakfast, lunches, gas (I dont use a lot of gas since I commute) and what ever else I need.

Wow, I feel like I am on the low side! I get $40/week. That includes gas. I go home for lunch so I rarely buy lunch and I bring breakfast to work with me from home.
With 2 kids, I can't afford to give myself much more than that.
