Do you have a 401K or some form of one?
DH does but I don't. He do pretty will with socking it away though...well, DH does.
If you don't have one, what are your plans for retirement?

Your employer doesn't offer any type of retirement plan?

Both DH and I have a 401K through our jobs, and I opened up a Roth IRA a few years ago in addition to the 401K.

He has mentioned it to me before and thinks I should get one, so I will be doing some homework on it soon.
I really have no clue about them, can someone give me a crash course?

We both have one. He has a 401K; mine is called a SARSEP account. We have those, and also some etrade accounts and a few scott trade accounts. One we play with; one we can't touch till like 45 or something.

I have a 401(k) with Merrill Lynch and an IRA with CitiStreet from my old job.
DH also has a 401(k).

i had 401k when i worked full time but cashed it out to invest in some property a few years back. DH is with a union and has a retirement plan thru them. for now thats enough since retirement is so far away. once we pay off all of our debt, every commission i get will go into a money market account that we wont touch.

I have on my own and one thru work as soon as I sign up for it- after this month
and once we have a house- we will start a stock account again-
my husband was a stock broker before he was a mortgage banker- so he likes to play around with that

I have had one since I am 22. My husband only NOw got one after we have been married. My crazy father would make me take out the minimum when I first began working (so I maybe took home 4 dollars a paycheck-LOL)
I honestly dont miss the money, while its not a million dollars its way more than I would ever save on my own. I am totally not disciplined when it comes to those things.
If you dont have a 401K offered you and your hubby could open an IRa (like with Fidelity) and agree for you to put 100 a week in it.
The sh!t grows, seriously.

DH and I both had 403B accounts when we worked in a not for profit. Now that we work for the state, we have a retirement plan that we pay into for the first 10 years. We plan on also setting up an account on our own.

I have 401K and my husband has a retirement plan with his union. Most of my money is invested with Vanguard and some in small cap funds.
Can't rely on SS being available to us when we retire and to rely solely on savings is not very efficient since your money doesn't grow as much as it does when invested.

Right now we each put $$ into a high yield CD wich is growing pretty fast. I just wanted to do something more....

I agree, thank goodness DH has a pension! BUT, he has to work till 63 or something stupid like that!!!

I have a 401K through my current employer. I rolled my last jobs 401k into this one. I also have an IRA with the funds from the 401k from my first job. I also have a pension. DH has several funds through his union. I wish I was in a union. 
You should definitely get involved with the 401K if your employer will contribute/match. Even if they don't, like Sylvia said, our generation can not count on SS.

We both have 401(k) accts and IRAs. I hadn't had a formal 401(k) for all of my working life and it really shows when I compare it to DH's accounts. He had company sponsored plans offered to him before I did. He has about 8 years on me with that and a lot more money.
You cannot depend on SS to be there when you retire. I suggest putting in the max you can into your 401(k) or IRAs.

Maybe he can put the maxiumum in his 401K. Your job does not offer them? I hate people like this.
