We both have 401K plans. But I am always wondering - how much will we need to retire???? How will we ever know it's enough? I really wish one of us had a pension.
I totally agree- my Dad was a teacher so he retired at 53 with a pension!
( my Mom was a teacher also- so when she passed away my Dad got her pension as a lump sum - otherwise they both would have had pensions)

Both DH and I have a 401K through our jobs, and I opened up a Roth IRA a few years ago in addition to the 401K.
same with us.

What I would give to have a pension. My firm offers them but I will never be here long enough to earn one.

I have 401K, I still have to rollover my earnings from when I was teaching and had a 403b.
DH hasn't been at his job long enough to be eligible, but I will make him put money into it when he is!

I know so many people who don't contribute to a retirement plan and never thought it was important until they hit 50 and realized they would have to work until the day they die. This is scary.
I wish I started when I was 22 but I started when I was 28. Those 6 years really hurt me.
As far as knowing what you need when you retire, it's worth meeting with a certified financial planner and discussing it. We did and have set goals that we are very comfortable with. It's a balancing act trying to put away money for retirement, saving for now and paying the bills but the plan works.
Also, it's never enough. If you are worried about putting too much away, don't.

I have a 401k from my old job and a 403b from my current job.
My husband has a pension as well as a retirement account (similar to a 403b).

I have a 403b and a state pension fund. DH has a 401K. We will be looking at other investment options after we move into our house!

I have a 401K and my job offers a pension. I also have an IRA. DH has an IRA and will do a 401K at the new job he starts next week.

DH also has an additional retirement fund through his union.

I have a 401(k) from my old job, one from my current job and a 100% emplyer funded pension plan from my current job which I am vested 100% after 3 years

I have an IRA and a 401K. I just started the 401K last April and was shocked how much I've accumulated with a 10% withdrawl. My Dh has life ins-no 401 K I am going to try and do an IRA for him before I file our taxes so he can get the credit for it.

I have a pension and annuity fund. I never check on it and where ever the funds were allocated when I was hired, I left them there....I am not too savvy with these darn things
I think DH has a 401K or some type of retirement fund....yeah, I should probably check on that
