we have a landscaper...DH works long hours and it's worth it to us to pay someone to do our lawn...he doesn't want to spend his time on the weekends doing it.

I'm trying to convince DH to get a landscaper so he doesn't have to. Our lawn does not look as nice as everyone elses. He says its not worth it financially but I'm hoping to get someone to come atleast every 2 weeks maybe

DH does it himself. I usually do the gardening pary (but im PG this year so we will see how much I can do)
We only hire for the Spring clean-up which was so worth it, who wants to thatch the lawn themselves? lol

We do a mix - hire someone to do the weekly mowing and weed and feed, but we (or mostly I) do the fall and spring clean ups. I take care of trying to weed and maintain the flower beds. DH grew up in Queens and doesn't really have experience with lawns and gardens, works long hours, and doesn't like doing it, so it's just not worth trying to have him do it. I would do more if I wasn't working full time, but when I am home I have enough to do with cooking, cleaning, etc. so I'm willing to pay for it.

DH mows it
Our backyard was really messed up though w/no grass...so DH just bought sod and laid it all down...hopefully it stays. I told him this is the last time/year that he gets a chance to fix the lawn before a landscaper gets hired.

We have landscapers mow and I spend about an hour a day in addition to that watering, weeding, pruning, fertilizing, clearing stuff up, putting down mulch, turning the soil...
We have an 85x100 lot but the previous owners used a whole lot of the land on all 4 sides for perennial gardens, evergreens, miniature trees and it's A LOT of work!

landscaper. DH used to do it, but it took half of each saturday and it never looked too nice after he finished. he also ruined our PVC fence by rubbing the lawn mower against it.
now we have wonderful landscapers who are done in 10 minutes. 6 come at a time and it looks so beautiful and professional when they are done. it is worth the price to have such a beautiful garden, and to have DH spend the weekend with his kids, not the lawn

Do you have a large yard? I ask because ours is not too big but it only takes my dh an hour a week to do everything. We purchased (after having the almost 20 yr. old lawnmower die last year) a new mower and it was about $300. We put it on our Sears card with no interest, no payments per month for a year. We paid it off way before the year came up but there was that option.
That's exactly what we did with our Sears card too. It was well worth it.
It will be large enough to put off for too long and large enough for me to get annoyed when it isnt done.

DH does it. Its just mowing and pulling some weeds, no biggie. He's also been putting down grass seed and fertilizer.

We do it ourselves. Lawnmover was $150. Landscaper wanted to charge us $30 a week. To us, it was a no-brainer.

we have a landscaper to cut the grass and clean up etc... but when it comes to planting flowers/bushes/etc... we do that ourselves!

we do it ourselves... its a lot of work! we have about an acre. theres woods behind us, so its tons of leaves in the fall, and we have lots of little beds to weed in the summer. sometimes it gets overwhelming, but we like doing it. we also both get home from work by 5, so we go out there for an hour at night after work, and we can keep up with it. and we're slowly making it lower maintainence- this weekend we put down a ton of mulch which will hopefully cut down on wedding that we'll hae to do. DH also spent $$$$ on a tractor thats a riding mower and a leaf bagger, which makes it easier to get up all the leaves in the fall.
maybe once we have kids, we'll pay somebody- but for now, doing it ourselves works!

We have 1/2 acre and I mow the lawn myself. I absolutely love it. I think it's incredibly zen to make patterns in the lawn. I have off in the summer, so that might make a difference.
It takes just under an hour to mow it and I love the chance I get to think or even zone out.
We do have a landscaper for fall clean up and he is great. He lives in our community, does just about every one's lawn and comes to our community events (We have an association) I wouldn't mind if he did it, but I don't want to give it up.
