Do you have a pool?

Do you have a pool? Not counting kiddie pools, just ones that an adult can float around in. Chat Icon Inflatable ones that are waist deep or more count.

We don't have one, and no plans (or room) to get one, so we make sure we have friends with pools... Chat Icon Chat Icon

Grew up with an above the ground pool. My last house, we put in a semi-in ground and the house I just bought has a built in pool. I love having a pool and can't imagine not having one

Re: Do you have a pool?

We literally just bought one of those Intex inflatable pools last week. It's a 13' and DH and I have been floating around in it. I love it so much I'm debating putting in a small inground pool.

No. I have no interest in the headache that is pool maintenance.

But I gladly bring drinks and food to anyone who invites me over to use theirs!

It's a lot of work. And a lot of money.
And we can only use it like 2 months of the year.
ours has been open since Memorial Day and I've yet to go in. The weather just sucks here. And when it does gets nice the pool is still freezing so we had to get a heater. Which is more maintenance and more money.
If I live in Florida it would be well worth it.
In NY, it's nice to have but probably not worth the costs

Re: Do you have a pool?

We dont, we have plenty of space for one but its going to be very expensive not just for the pool but we have about 6 adult trees that would have to be cleared as well as ground leveling...

It may be something we do in the future, who knows...but my parents have a gorgeous retreat like backyard with inground pool., waterfall etc. Its beautiful....so we just go there usually on Sundays for a pool day. I have 2 smalls kids...so maintaining a pool is something we dont really have time for these days anyway.

This! The idea of having a pool sounds nice, but the money and maintenance is a turn off. Plus, you can't use it year round and I work all summer, so I would realistically have time to use it maybe 20 times. Not worth it for us.

i've never been interested... the fact that i can only doggy paddle might be a factor lol.

i have a cousin who has always had a pool. the work i see them put into it makes it a BIG deterrent to ever wanting one.

i, too, will be more than happy to bring food and drinks... and help clean up... to use someone else's pool every now and again.

Re: Do you have a pool?

No it’s not something that we would use frequently enough for it to be worth it.. plus our backyard is too small anyway.

Re: Do you have a pool?

We don't but I would love to have one once my boys get bigger. I love how if done right you can get a resort feel in your backyard. We love hanging in our yard now so that would only add to it. BUT, my toddlers know how to unlock my back door, even with safety locks on it, and after those twins drowned in Melville last year, I put that whole idea on hold until I am confident they can swim.

Also, I know that whoever has a pool typically gets all the neighborhood kids over. I like that idea because as my boys get older, I will know where they are, know who their friends are and somewhat be able to keep an eye on their behavior. Chat Icon

Re: Do you have a pool?

I grew up with a pool and it only got used in July and part of August because it would be too cold other times. So I wouldn't get one now unless it had a heater. I also have no interest as I have young children and my friends and family do too and it just scares me too much. I can let my kids play in the backyard while I wash the dishes in the kitchen and not worry much. (For the record I have a window at the sink directly to the backyard where they play) Chat Icon

My thoughts word for word. We had an above ground but removed it because it was a PITA to maintain for something we got such little use out of. It's still freezing cold and rainy most days in June. And we barely get much summer squeezed out of July and August. I always say if we ever move to FL I would only move if we had an in-ground. But winter freeze NY? No thanks.

Re: Do you have a pool?

We had one in the house we were living at. It was taken out in April due to expense and lack of use and maintenance.
It was in a backyard of trees so it was always cold and buggy and full of leaves.

Re: Do you have a pool?

No, but I wish I did. There is no way I’d be able to do that living on the second floor.

The neighbour behind put up their pool this week for the summer (it’s like a portable pool). My landlord downstairs has an inflatable pool. But when I see him in it with his Speedo, I’m like OK, nope. People just go to rivers and lakes here (and almost drown apparently).

ITA. Although we call my parents' house the Pool Club in the summer. Can't beat a free, no maintenance pool a mile away.

Re: Do you have a pool?

Yes, we have an above ground pool, I would have preferred an in ground pool, to me they are so much more aesthetically appealing but my kids were 3 and 1 when we put it in, and I was too worried with an in ground or even semi in ground pool.
I love the pool- my kids are in it constantly, the cold temp never bothers them, I have only been in once so far, but I do really enjoy it.

This. The old owners of our house had one, but they had to take it down because I guess the fence wasn't legal or something with the pool there. I didn't really care because I didn't want the cost or maintenance of having one.

We don't, but now that I'm moving upstate I'm considering it - maybe... LOL The cost and upkeep as a single mom is keeping me from giving it a go.

In your situation, I would save my $$$$ for lawyer fees. I wouldn’t do anything extreme at this point. Upstate doesn’t really need pools, just sayin’ . Save, save, save. Get yourself set up in a proper place. Feed your kids and work on the paperwork. I have been doing that and it has worked really great. I have a nice savings account. I was very frugal and it has paid off. Just do the basics for a few months.

Do you have a pool?

We are moving to N.C. and I think we’re going to get one for next year. It has been hot as hell down there so I kinda can’t see NOT having one. And it’s funny bc I’m really not a pool person but i think all that is going to change with 95 degree weather for 3 months at a time...
